Dear Friends over there
At first i would like to introduce my self
Iam a Hunter from Germany and i love Firearms
As an Hunter you have the right to own two handguns
At my first place , i own a Smith mod 29 - 2 44 mag
For the second place i am searching something compact
At my Gun shop i found a Smith , it is stamped with
Mod 36 1 zoll barrel
no Dash
under this is stamped a number 28067 and B18
The serial number at the Butt end is stamped J66
I would like to know the year of Birth and all information you have
The German fellow can't help me
And is it ok to shoot +p ammo , i know of course not thousands of them but a few
I hope you can help me
Best wishes from Germany

Welcome to the forum.
J66 would come from 1969 and yes I believe some +P ammo would be OK but I would not over do it in a J frame.

Let me add, I don't know if they let you carry guns in Germany but the M36 is a great little carry revolver. Many here in the US just slip one in a pocket and off they go.
The other numbers you see were used in the manufacturing process and don't mean anything now.

Thank you
You aren't allowed to carry Firearms at all , the Law makes only two exceptions
At first you have a certain License its called Waffenschein
you can only get that license if you can proof that you are by example a Person that is under danger , a Judge for example .
Its almost impossible to get this license .
Second you are a Hunter and you carry guns in a relation with hunting , for example you are allowed to carry a gun in condition to fire , so its called here .You don't have to lock the gun in a case or something , the gun only must be unloaded .
Its ok to have the Handgun in the holster on you and the ammo in the pocket .
When you actually hunt it is of corse ok to have the gun loaded .
I hope you understand
Its very hard to explain and understand it in german .
You are very lucky over the great lake so we call the atlantic .
We as gun owners in Germany are permanent under the radar of the police and the responsible public authorities .
The public although see us as kind of special , we have a population of 82 million people and 7 million sport shooters and 400 thousand Hunters , so very thew people own guns

First, Welcome to the Forum. There is much Information here on just about every Smith and Wesson ever made. The Model 36 is an excellent choice. Enjoy, and again Welcome. Where do you live in Germany?

This is the Model 36 SN range: 1969-1970 = J1 - J99999

Recognize that the Model 36 is lightweight, so +P ammunition will produce heavier recoil.

There are many politicians and government bureaucrats in the USA who would like to completely ban guns of all types here. So far they have not succeeded (at least in most places) but they are very persistent. We have recently gone through an attempt to ban certain types of ammunition, and that is also a big target for them.
