Its amazing to me how a simple grip change can change your perspective of a handgun.

Years ago I was shooting this 625 weekly. With Round Butt conversion grips (RB to SB). To me, it was just a good shooting N Frame. Very accurate.

And then I remembered it was actually a round butt. So out of the safe it came and I found these grips at Altamont.

Changed my whole perception. I have a nice 4" RB Carry N Frame now.

Perfect! A full-length grip is good on a .45. Not so much for recoil, but to control the torque generated by this big bullet. The round butt simply disappears under clothing.

I really like the snakeskin checkering on the grips. All S&W Mountain Guns I have seen have it marked Mountain Gun on the right side of the barrel. I do not see the marking on your revolver. ??

Love that mountain gun in that caliber!

Pre lock goodness, hard hitting useful round.

Not a fan of Altimont or RB on a 4", but that's subjective and to each their own. If it makes it right for you, then it's right.

Happy shooting, use it in good health!

Great revolver.
Mine is a favorite and is carried and shot more than nearly any of my other MG's.

The Mountain Gun marking is plain as day now. LOL I have wondered if it might get a little faint with age; although I am getting a little faint myself with age along with gray and wrinkled. I love my Model 25 Mountain Gun. It came with a set of Afhrends which I believe are the conversions from a round grips to semi-square. I understand Afhrends did provide S&W with original grips.

Nice revolver. I have one about the same vintage. I really like mine.

All of the S&W Mountain guns that I have personally seen come with a set of Hogue rubber finger groove grips on them. I'm one of the guys that Hogue finger groove grips on anything don't fit my hand.

I either use Hogue round-butt wood grips with no finger grooves or I use a set of Pachmayer Compacts. The Pachs aren't pretty but they fit my hands on K, L and N frames.

Grips are a lot like shoes or boots. What fits me won't fit you and vice versa. You can make do if you have to. Some folks are lucky enough that what works for them is pretty as well as functional. What works best for me is very functional but won't ever be called pretty.

The etched logo's/writing is long gone from my .44 mtn gun & 686 mtn gun. The CHEAP etchings should have been stamped as in the old way.

you may have just sold a set of Altamonts...looks like I need a pair for my .44 Mt Gun!
