Smith & Wesson or Glock?

As an old 1911 guy, the S&W M&P offers the thumb safety. The only way to get a thumb safety on a Glock is an after market chop job. If you are not a thumb safety fan the S&W still has the better grip. I put my Glocks in the safe and currently carry an S&W M&P 45 mid as my every day carry.

Gotta be a trick question. I'll vote for...S&W! Many Glock Depts are switching to S&Ws. I also dig the available safety on the S&W.

i have to say smith and wesson i like the feel in my hand better and the lower price

No chum or pushback, but this is a S&W forum, what kind of answers do you supppose you'll get. Not being a brain surgeon and all, I'm thinking you might get different answers if you posed the same question at GlockTalk.

I was a Glock basher once. Then I had the opportunity to send a few magazines worth of ammo down range. When I realized I was shooting better with my buddies G27 than I was with my M&P, I stopped the bashing and bought my very own G27 a few days later.
Recently, I had moved away from the G27. I have become spoiled with my tiny carry guns and it sometimes just felt a little bulky when carried IWB. Since I liked how it shot so much, I decided to trade it for a full size G22. Well, I got my G22 and gosh darn it, it shoots better than the G27. Funny thing though... I didn't trade the G27. I traded my M&P instead.
I like my Glocks more than any S&W semi autos I've encountered. Yep.. it's true. I liked my M&P... my 457 has it's place.. hated the Sigma.. I kinda miss my old 1006. I love my S&W revolvers and if I had to pick to own only one handgun, it would be my 681.
My point... I dunno. You got to go with what works best for you.

I hate all S&W autos. Don't know why just never liked the looks or the feel. Love Glocks always have always will. But my all time favorites are S&W revolvers
Gag... Yeah, I love S&W revolvers. Never thought much about them until I bought my wife a Model 60 and myself a 442. But I'll take a 1911 made by S&W over a glock any day. Maybe S&W 1911's are junk; I really don't know, never owned one. I'd still buy one over a glock. A good 'smith can tune anything..... except for turning plastic into steel
i have both m&p and glock and imo there is so little difference between the two,glock sites are better, m&p mag release is better,etc. they both are excellent shooters and good carry weapons. i would be hard pressed to make a decision which one is better.

Have both. Both a very good guns. I have owned Glocks for years and am very comfortable with the feel of the gun.
I use the M&P for IDPA shooting instead of my beloved Glock 22. Why? No special reason, just wanted to change. My scores and times have stayed consistent.
I carry a 1911, Glock 27 or Kahr CW-40. No matter which gun your "friend" chooses between the Smith or Glock, he will end up with a quality handgun.

Glocks are the Honda Accord of the firearm world. Everyone knows about them, they've been around forever, they're cheap imports (and look it), but gawd are they boring!

Own both. If I was looking at a 9mm / 40 cal., I would choose a Glock, as the trigger is better then the S&W, and grips are comparable, if different. As noted above, proven Honda Accord like reliability.
In a 45 acp, I would pick the S&W, as the grip is much better feeling then the large frame Glocks, and its a lot easier to fix the stiff trigger on the S&W the to change the grip feel on the Glock.

Because they are cheaper. Most PD's will buy whatever is cheapest at the time. In many ways, the third gen Smith autos are far superior to the Glock but Glock undercut pricing and ran the third gens right out of the market.
When considering plastic, stiker fired autos, the Glock is still the best but if I had to carry a M&P or XD my only question would be, "What time is lunch?"

both fine guns. I prefer the trigger on S&W because it is a bit stiffer and less likely to shoot when not intended.

I would say that the only thing superior about the third gen Smiths would be as a paper weight or small boat anchor.

I have both.... glocks are ugly as a shaved cat, but they work very well. My Smith revolver (no lock) collection keep growing 10 a year, love those US build work of art. Glocks are like work horses of pistols. But for SD its hard to beat my G30 with 10 rounds of 45 acp.
