Smith & Wesson PC Model 13-4 Serial Numbers HPC0001 & JPC0001 Together Again !!!

Well... Its not my style to show off, however... (here we go:))

This situation was just too cool to not share with the Members of this Forum.

I had an opportunity to recombine these two serial number one Model 13-4's from the Performance Center and was obviously very excited when I realized what I had done. As documented in the SCSW 3rd Ed., There were only 400 manufactured and the run was divided by two product codes, 170059 and 170063. The difference between the two are the different type of "Quad Ports". HPC0001 ports are like standard Mag-na-Port (on the top side of the barrel), and the second run (JPC) have the ports on the top of the barrel.

I read somewhere (probably here!) that there was an issue with Mag-na-Port, so the factory changed the design mid run? Hopefully, someone will chime in and correct me or confirm...

I did notice one error in the Standard Catalog of S&W 3rd ed. (Not the first one I have seen and won't be the last) definately NOT being critical of the Authors here... I would not want to put a massive document together like that! Thats what the 4th ed. is for (corrections). I am curious if there is a formal way to submit information that corrects issues like this? (Subject for a different Post).

SCSW 3rd ed. lists Product Code 170059 with Eagle SS Grips (which mine does have) however, the serial number prefix should be listed as "HPC". The sticker on the box for "JPC" prefix, lists the Product Code as: 170063 with a "spec. ord." of 5079, and this also came with the correct "Uncle Mike's" grips.

Anyway, sorry to go on and on... (Enjoy)

#1 of each offering. Quite an accomplishment. Did you specifically hunt down the #1 of each S/N or was it a freak happening?

Actually a little bit of both...

I am tenacious, when it comes to hunting something down (to a fault). But I will have to admit that it was by accident!

What makes it even worse... I did not even realize it until I picked up the 3rd ed. SCSW. Although, I was rather excited when I read it!

Great question

Congrats.....

Fantastic pair, it's special to connect the two "same number" guns from both production runs.

I did the same, but I chose s/n 13 as - afterall - it's a Model 13. :)

You have a great pair, enjoy them, and don't forget to shoot them as they are exceptional "Serious" carry revolvers.

Beauties, Michael, Beauties! I thought I was doing well to find one, and here you have two, and number 1's both of them! Fantastic! :D:eek::D

Thanks Bill!

I know we go head to head sometimes, when it comes to collecting. Next ones yours... I'm broke! ;($)...LOL

That is just too Cool...

Thanks for sharing. I am always reading your posts and am amazed at your collection and wealth knowledge.

PC 13-4's

Wow Michael, great snag!!! Thanks so much for sharing and enjoy those two great revolvers. They are truly stunning!

They are both beautiful, congratulations. Have you shot them and if so is there a difference in the recoil control? Was wondering if the placement of the ports made any difference? Congratulations again and thanks for the photo's.
Frank.

Wowza! Those are some really nice guns. I really like those factory double action only hammers.
thanks, that makes two of us!

Bullseye GA,
Nice set up on number ones.
THE ROLLING STONES

Thanks RS. You would have to see the Keith Brown Goncalo Alves grips in hand. They ARE the best... Great attention to detail.

Hi Frank,

Thanks!

No, I have not had the opportunity to take them out to shoot (yet). I would doubt that there would be any perceivable difference due to the quad port placement. Generally, you see little benefit from them at all unless you are shooting Magnum loads.

I do not know for sure, however, I read (second hand info) that the placement of the ports changed due to an issue with Mag-na-Port. License issue? That is why they did two runs over the same year using two serial number prefix for these. I was waiting for someone here to comment on that...

S&W PC-13

Hello All,

I have a 1995 S&W PC-13 new in the original box with all factory paperwork except I am missing the Performance Center One Page Performance center flyer titled "MODEL 13 .357 CARRY GUN SPECIAL EDITION" and shows a picture of the pc13-4 with a speed loader, listing of the features and has Performance Center on the bottom of the flyer. I would definitely appreciate a copy of the flyer emailed in pdf or imaged if anyone can assist. Just want to make the package complete. Thanks so much in advance!

I have attached a photo from a previous listing of another posters PC13 with the flyer for reference.

Making corrections to The S&W Catalog

I emailed the author and he responded very quickly, did his research with Roy Jinks and made the correction in the 4th ed.

UPDATE... Just found out from Earl Minot (Lew Horton Distributors) that these came out of Lew's personal collection! Now thats special...

Good to know!

We should have a "sticky" in each forum section with their contact info to send in discrepencies and documentation, pictures. etc.

Welcome to Smith & Wesson Forum!

Seth,

My HPC0001 came with...
S&W Revolvers Safety & Instruction Manual (6/93)
The Brown, "Firearms Safety Depends on You" Pamphlet
Product Registration Card (4/94)
S&W Warranty Statement
Ace Grips Brochure
and VCI Protective Paper

JPC0001
has the same except the Safety & Instruction Manual date is 2/95
and a medium blue plastic bag with "Smith & Wesson" on it.
and
NO Warranty Statement.

Also... no guarantee that my case is Factory Correct!!

However, it would be nice to have the advertisement for the Gun. Another great idea for a section of the Forum... .pdf files of advertisements for any and all S&W Guns that are available...

I have seen people add an advertisement brochure, that they had, into a Gun case, and then sell it later that way, however, cannot verify if it shipped from the S&W Factory that way... Forum member "Smithnut" probably knows! Out of the 50 or so PC Guns that I own, from 1991 through 2005 never came with one. The only exception was one of the 2005 625-10 that came with one and the previous owner added it to the case, as an example. Hope this helps!

Also... Thank you for resurrecting this thread... I found out some additional information also!
