Today, I stopped at the gunshop that I frequent twice weekly to say "hey" and see if any fresh trades came in during our "tax free" holiday weekend. The place was hopping. So after helping another customer decide on a M&P for himself I notice one of the M&P's in the case had some extra writing on the tag. I already have and enjoy three M&P's ( 9pro,9C and 45FS) so I almost looked no further but ventured a closer look anyway. To my surprise, what I saw was a M&P in 357 sig which is a very rare chambering in my area. It was "used" but as new in box w two mags and all accessories . Additionally, the gun came with a KKM 40S&W Match conversion barrel still in the package. Lastly, it had a NICE 5.5# (APEX DAK?) trigger job. ( Something worth it's weight in gold here in Mass where 10+# is the norm from the factory.). As the story goes, the gun was sold (by another shop) to a kid as his first (ever) handgun. The kid was a little overwhelmed with the 357 so tried the 40 S&W conversion. He gave up on both after just a few months of ownership. (I'm amazed that a shop would sell a 357 sig to a novice shooter!)
Long story, short: While I really didn't "need" another M&P, this gun filled the 4.25" barrel length void in my meager M&P collection as well as adding the two extra calibers. Furthermore, I just didn't have the heart to pass on all this sweet package for $400 OTD. Frankly, I'm amazed it didn't sell before I got there. Now if I can only afford the 357 sig ammo :-)

Yeah, I was going to say, what does "need" have to do with anything??

Great find. I think i'd have it in my safe if i had stumbled across it too.

Business is business. Plus, I'd not be surprised if his friends insisted he needed that combination because of the cool factor and convinced him he'd get bored with a .22 in a very short time.

That's the same reason so many first time motorcyclists end up with 600cc crotch rockets.

Was the store 4 Seasons in Woburn?

NO, The seller was closer to the RI border but I will not give the name since I have no first hand knowledge of the actual circumstances. Only a third hand story. As MScott pointed out, there may be more to it. That said, it wouldn't be the first horror story I've heard on this particular seller. Anyway, I'm grateful for the eventual outcome .

Without knowing more, I can't blame the shop. I've been a gun dealer, had my own computer business, and I currently have the joy of working in the retail industry.

There are customers who have done their own research and come to you having a pretty good idea of what they need.

There are the customers who come to you not knowing what they they need and ask you to help them figure out what they need.

Then we have the customers who think that they know what they need and will say that they know little about the subject but still will not listen to any suggestions from the salesmen. With these people all we can do is take their money and wish them luck.
