I don't put a lot of weight on so-called "water tests" of ammunition, but I found these interesting:

I agree not really usefull but water really does make em open up. Almost got punched in the nose at a local shop over this sort of thing. After listening to a fellow raveing about his favorite ammo expanding in jug's of water, I was asked my opinion, I told him if he was ever attacked by water jug's he had effective ammo for the job! He took that poorly.

This really does prove very little other than the bullets expand. Nothing about penetration. Why reinvent the wheel? Just go to brass Fetcher and get some data that is a bit more useful??

A gun editor who has shot a number of animals said that he has found that water tests aren't too far from the expansion that he sees in game animals. He also noted that if a bullet won't expand in water, it probably won't in flesh, either.

So, water tests aren't meaningless.

Yeah none of my tests really mean anything other than being a curiosity. I make no assertions as to their scientific validity or what you can draw from the conclusions. They are, however, interesting and slightly entertaining at the least.

Water tests are fun and I find it interesting to see the way different bullets expand.
As far as meaning, I leave that to those who care.

I take the kool aid very seriously though!

I think Erich has it nailed regarding hand gun performance.
