so how do you transport your firearms/gear to and from the range?

for me its the upper and lower detached from each other, mags empty and in my range bag with the targets and box and loose ammo in ziplock bags up front with me.. so everything is disassembled and far from being loaded... im not too sure with local firearms transportation laws so im doing everything i can think of to have my weapon as far from being able to fire as to avoid any hang ups if pulled over and with everyone recently being all anti gun, im paranoid lol

so the question stands... how do you guys pack for the range?

I transport my AR15 to and from the range in a Bulldog Discreet AR case. The upper and lower are separated, each in a padded 1/2 of the case. The case also has two magazine pouches on the interior. I keep the BCG in my range bag.

Outdoor ranges are few and far between. My only option at the moment is to use a Bass Pro 100yd indoor rifle tube. This case is much less conspicuous when transiting the parking lot and through the retail floor. I then carry my usual range backpack in.

Here in Florida my rifle is assembled & usually on the back seat in a case. Mags are loaded up so I don't have to waste range time loading up. I was actually stopped by a State Trooper to check my tag, & even though I told her right away that I had a gun on my side, & in the back, she didn't even ask to look at the rifle. Here in Florida, they don't care. GARY

I live in Florida it's not uncommon to see guns in the rear window gun rack of a pickup truck,I transport mine in a case made for AR's usualy on the back floor of My Pickup,Mags/Ammo & stuff are in a Midway Range Bag.

it depends on the rifle but they are either in a hard or a soft case, in the passenger seat of my pickup. Ammo in a range bag and smithing tools and such in another range bag...because it is our private range I have my targets laid flat down underneath the Armrest storage compartment in my dodge pickup and pistol either in the armrest of laying on the passenger side truck without a mag in it...Chrony and stand in the back with my shooting table and chair plus extra targets behind the seat of the truck.

I can do that but out at our farm (3 miles to the target) I have it laid out to 600 yards by 50 yard increments, behind the house I have to set up my jammit at whatever distance I want and out at the farm I can drive to or from the target and shooting table plus the prairie dogs are just above the hill to the north.

I've got a carry permit.
And that's primiraly WHY I got it too - no concerns about the legality of anything.

I have an outback and an expedition, had a minivan - no 'trunk' in any of them to make 'locked, inaccessible from the drivers seat (never mentions passengers...), ammo separate from the gun, unloaded'

I have hard cases for my rifles.
I have a range bag that holds my ammo and my pistols when I take them.
I try to load my mags at home, speedloaders, etc when going to a competition as it's just faster/easier to do it at my dining room table than out of the back of my car at the range.

Same here. Walk out my back door to my shooting range. Life is good!!

Haven't taken mine to the range yet but when I do it will be fully assembled. Likely even have a full pmag in it but I won't put a round in the chamber. Thankful I live in GA. I could walk around with it slung across my back and be perfectly legal as I have my GA weapons license. We've made pretty good strides the last few years in removing restrictions.

ARIK,Prof Fate, JRader: I would suggest you check your CCW laws because some states will allow you to carry your "handgun" Cocked & Locked but prohibit carrying rifles/shotguns loaded. I lived in Pa many years ago and carried my rifles/shotguns in my " easy rider rifle rack" without problems. In Mi it is legal to carry your handgun(s) but long guns must be in a "covering" , unloaded and not within easy access even with CCW. I do 95% of my shooting on my range on my property. But depending on the day and equipment I load the back of the Yukon/Tahoe and fill it with gear so I do not have to carry, bags, ammo,firearms,etc. Be Safe,

I have a CCW permit. I can just "haul" them any way I want. Open carry is legal here too,but not "pushed" by many.

The long guns I have in a hard case behind the seat with the fully loaded mags in a bag with my targets in the front and my loaded Pistol on the front passenger seat. In NC it doesnt make a difference whether or not you are loaded the pistol cant be concealed even in a locked case without a CCW. OC it has to be on the dash or passenger seat and on you visible at all times.

Hard and soft cases for the long guns. I have an extended cab pickup so they either go in the bed or on the rear cab seat.

Even with a LTCF , here in PA , you cannot have a loaded rifle or shotgun in a motor vehicle. And the State Police have ruled and courts have agreed that loaded magazines in the side pockets of an 'assualt rifle case' with the rifle in the main compartment equates 'loaded'.
