Got a bunch of Academy gift cards for Christmas that amounted to at least the going price for a Glock 42. I had a 42 and traded it last year, and have always wanted another. Walked in, straight to the gun counter, “I want one of those.” Filled out the 4473 on an iPad for the first time, opened the box and checked the pistol, waited for “Proceed.” Picked up a box of Hornady Critical Defense .380, got called to the counter in about 15 minutes. Gun counter dude grabbed the pistol, walked me to front, bypassed the four registers with 30 people each in line, opened special register. I paid, he walked me out front door, handed me the sack and said adios. In and out in about 45 minutes. Totally smooth transaction. . .

Congrats!

The Glock 42 is the best Glock IMO. While it may be slightly larger than the LCP or P380, it's small enough to pocket carry but big enough that I'd be comfortable loading it with superhot Buffalo Bore or Underwood. I not a Glock fan, but I have a G42 and a G19. I keep the G19 largely to remind myself how much I don't like Glocks, but I'm actually pretty fond of the G42.

Background checks usually not required if you have a CWP. Enjoy your new pistola Muggs.

That’s a state by state issue. Most states still require them regardless, if I’m as on top of this stuff as I think I am. Can we just talk about Academy or Glock?

Edit: Missouri requires a NICS check for purchases from FFL's, regardless of permit status. Transactions between non-FFL consenting adult Missouri residents are done on a handshake . . .

Several of my family members aren't supporters my firearm hording and try to quell me from acheiving Rambo status. To those family members I ask for academy gift cards during the holidays as asking for firearms, ammo, or accessories is out of the question. Unbeknownst to them, they are steadily feeding the monster.

Good deal, Muss. A 42 is somewhere in my future. I have a 23 and a 27, but am attracted to the 42 as a concealed carry gun. We don't have Academy stores around here, so I am unfamiliar with them.

Best Regards, Les

Glad it went smooth. But 45 minutes is a long time.

Not for Academy . . . they are extremely careful with 4473s. I have purchased several guns from their stores. Each time took anywhere from 30 minutes to more than an hour.

Last time I filled out a 4473 there it was looked at by four separate people before they were satisfied that it was correct. It was also the first one I had done on the ipad there. No NICS check for me as Texas bypasses it for LTC holders. The only other place I had done an electronic 4473 was at Cabela's a couple years ago.

Sorry, but the SIG P365 is the same size and holds twice as much.

Hopefully this Glock doesn't have excessive wear on the slide release ... wish Academy was local in AZ!

They'll ship; their counter part out West is Big5 and Sportsman Warehouse
