So, I Bought an Interesting Truck...

The hose has to be connected. It controls the fuel pressure to the injectors unless the pump is weak. The system should run rich with the hose off and put a code 45 in the computer system and a service engine light.

Yes, I know, but removing it for a moment (troubleshooting, not permanently) tells me it's the fuel pressure regulator making the annoying buzzing sound. It vibrates the entire fuel rail and possibly the fuel lines along the firewall/body back to the tank. As others have described it, it sounds like someone's playing a kazoo.

I would want to preserve the originality of the truck to the point were i might sell it to someone else that could look after it if i couldnt

Rocker panels and wheelwells rusted through isn't exactly the kind of originality most people are looking for. In the rustbelt where he lives (it has that nickname for a reason) rust perforated sheet metal is a certainty in just a few years for any vehicle that is driven through the winters. It eventually happens even to those that are undercoated, it just takes about twice as long (assuming it was done well and properly).

The only way I would EVER drive a new-ish vehicle in that part of the country without undercoating it would be if it were a summertime only vehicle or one I knew with 100% certainty that I wouldn't be keeping more than 5 years. Even then the undercoating would add more to the value to the next purchaser - and to the resale - than it cost to have it done.

Nice pickup! I drive a 2016 Double Cab LT 4x4 with 56k miles on it that isn't that clean on the underside! The 2014+ wheels are a nice touch by the way! Good to hear you're going to use it as it was intended. I have buddies that have bought brand new loaded up fully capable trucks and are worried about doing actual work with the truck! Mine is clean and well cared for but, you'd find some dents and scratches INSIDE the bed and the hitch receiver gets regular use pushing the 9500# tow rating on more than a couple of times! Trucks are meant to be used as trucks! Granted mine gets most of it's miles commuting to work and out and about on my route as a territory manager but, not afraid to use it and I hope to get 200k + miles outta it..

That truck is seriously too nice to drive. I would consider sending it to Barrett Jackson or one of the big auction houses. I believe a serious collector would make it worth your while. It's not going to be Ferrari or Porsche money but if you paid what I'm guessing you paid, it might be
a pleasant surprise.

Are there serious collectors for late 90's plane Jane Chevy Pickups? I could see if it was a special edition but, this is pretty run of the mill...

Water and debris trap, the plastic drop-in bedliner had to go. Look at this bed, still like factory new:
