So I fired my M&P exactly six times the other day and then...

Found a new problem!

Now I have lots of experience with Austrian polymer pistols, and they work well. However, my M&P has an issue where it spits the brass neatly out to the side and all in one small area.

This can't be right, as my experience with the previously mentioned brand has taught me the brass should fly all over the place, and often bounce off my hat, glasses, face, or - if I'm really lucky - go down the front of my shirt.

The only logical conclusion is that something must be wrong with my M&P.

I have a 9mm FS that I bought back in March, and I am having the same issues as the rest of the brotherhood here.I have sent probably around 700 rounds down range with the same issues as you guys.A friend of mine couldn't help but notice my anguish as my gun kept spitting out case after case,so he bought one and has the same issue as well.I was going to buy a M&P9c with crimson trace to see if it has the same issues or if mine was a fluke, but after a question earlier today about the 9 shield I decided I would test that one as well.Low and behold when I got to the gun shop they had a M&P9 FS with crimson trace that also looked lonely so I brought him home as well to be with his friends, and to see if he has the same issues as my other M&P9 FS.Here is to many years of having the same issue as I have already experienced these last six months. So here I am with nothing to do after bringing home all three lonely M&P's and cleaning them while listening to them whine about wanting to spit some brass, but can't until next Saturday.

Well I finally found out what could make my M&P stop running. She's 5'4, 115 lbs and a newer shooter with a very negative position. She had some bizarre failure to fires and some issues with it repeating on the last shot of the magazine. After I recocked the gun and drilled the center of the target twice all the problems mysteriously stopped. New shooter is incredibly feisty and readily rose the challenge laid down as the gun ran another 90 rounds straight before the range closed. She tightened up to a six inch group by the end of the shooting and is focused on rebuilding endurance to maintain a steady hold. By the by I was able to hold 3" groups unsupported all day. I'm certain I'll soon be able to do better still.

Shield 9mm with over 550 rounds through it. I might have a problem, it ejects brass too quickly.

I found out that these are terrible targets. Other than the four corner bulls, the center is very hard to bisect and gain contrast on. I shot at it after this picture and the groups were huge. Clearly this is not a function of the firearm, but of shooter fatigue and sight picture. I take responsibility there. This is a 60 round group that I shot yesterday in four consecutive magazines of fifteen.

I too have a Beretta 92FS and have never had a misfire in 15 years. My M&P 40 has only been with me for couple of years and it is a dream - I shoot <3" groups at 25 yards. Beretta won't do that.

I was at the range last week and a friend had a an XD 40. Shot very much like my M&P, but the M&P just "feels" better. We all stopped shooting to watch a guy's wife shoot an AR 10, M&P 10. First shot was fine but the second shot just "clicked" said the wife. We waited about a minute and opened it up. Case was in there - primer was struck. Extractor would not pull case out. Strange .. Put a rod down the barrel to push it out, but the rod was blocked 4" from the crown. Hmm ... has all the symptoms of a squib load. I recommended a gunsmith to solve this one. Any thoughts?

You did what I would have done. I do not like to mess with rounds that may or may not have fired AND has a barrel blockage. Its Gunsmith time.

New M&P 9c owner here, I have a similar problem, mine ran it's first box of 50 rounds flawlessly. But as if that wasn't enough, mine came with these three neat things called "Interchangeable Palmswell Grip Sizes".

Strangely enough, they seem allow me to get a proper trigger reach unlike the 4th Gen Glock 19 that I traded towards it which only allowed me to just barely get enough trigger reach to disengage the "Safe action" trigger safety.

That surely can't be right, because here I thought that one size was supposed to fit all, and that you just had to "get used to it" and/or adapt a slightly offset grip.

Oh, and did I mention that my M&P doesn't feel like a 2x4 in the hand? How about the fact that I don't have to cant my wrist about 5 degrees forward for the gun not to point upwards when aiming it?

I know, weird, right?

Another 200 flawless rounds between my full size 9mm and Shield 9mm. I was really shooting out the bulls with the full size tonight and the Shield was no slouch.

Apex kit + TFO sights = Awesome.

I ran 250 rounds through my M&P yesterday. I found out it still works. With all the recent reports of problems I was afraid that my gun had caught the sickness also. Good to know the malfunctions aren't electronically transmitted. :d

Wait a minute, this is unheard of.
You posting an experience of a normally functioning, accurate and fun shooting M&P?
That's what thousands of us experience all the time at the range and we don't post on the forum about it.
You're only supposed to post here if you're having problems.

Range time today with wife, daughter, Shield 9, M&P FS 9, M&P 40C; and wouldn't you know it, they all fired perfectly!

Another 200 rounds down range from my Shield and not one problem. Well, 1 stovepipe as the guy who shot my gun for the first time limp wristed it, but other than that it's been a joy to shoot. Even my self installed TFO's were on target properly. That brings the total up to over 750 rounds with not one issue. Needless to say this is one gun I'll keep until it explodes, and then I'll probably rebuild it and keep shooting.

I took my M&P to a 300 plus round match in NC the other day and it fine and shot well enough to earn me third in my division behind to grandmasters. I'll gladly share the link to the scores if any one is interested. I had a blast and I got very familiar with the gun and was shooin decent groups with the gun out at fifty yards on a couple of targets. I almost cleaned the stage, but blew one of the targets for a decent group just out of the kill zone. Bottom line is that my gun runs fine. Some 1000 rounds in and no issues. Yawn.

So far only put 100 rounds through my new Shield 9mm but it has been flawless. Only problem was self inflicted. I'm used to shooting 1911's with a 2 thumbs forward hold. Once in a while my thumb is riding the slide stop and the slide isn't locking back on the last round fired from a magazine. If I keep my fat thumb off the slide release all works as expected.

100 practice rounds at the range yesterday. Sorry no problems to report. I love this gun!!

I tried to get my M&P40 to misfire because I was going through too much expensive ammo. Then I got a new M&P40C & my hopes were renewed until I put 250 rounds through it. The piece of junk refused to misfire & ejected every casing. The sights were bang on, another disappointment. I tried calling S&W to complain but my phone was shut off for non-payment due to spending too much money on ammo.
