So I wanted a Colt SAA **Updated with Grashorn's"

I'm a firm believer that machinery should be used for its designed purpose. Shoot it.

When I retired in 2008 I bought two new Colt SAA's as a retirement gift to myself. Whist we were doing the paperwork the dealer asked me if I was going to shoot them. I showed him the hang tag's that stated "firing this revolver will reduce it's value" and said by this time tomorrow I will have reduced their value. As for your beautiful Colt, keep it out of holsters to preserve the blueing and shoot it!

I have one commemorative firearm; a Winchester 94 Golden Spike Edition. I went to a gun shop looking for a lever action rifle and I just loved the look and feel of it. After I actually bought it I himmed and hawed about shooting it and it really started to bother me. Some people said it will lose value or don't ruin it. I talked to my father about it and all he said was "Son...thats a damn nice rifle. Why the hell wouldn't you?" Well I have shot the everloving heck out of that rifle and don't regret it for a second. Some people keep commemoratives locked up and that's their choice and their right. Personally I don't think it does the firearm justice to be left unfired.

Great metal there. I've always wanted a SAA but have hesitated because I don't know the gun or history.
Maybe someday.

Alright, I'm sold. I'll take it to the range this week.

I also think it needs some no bark Grashorn's.

Now the next question. Colt Medallion of no Medallion?

It's not a "plane Jane gun", so I'd add silver medallions myself.

I have owned several over the years and and still own two. One is a 1st Gen. 4 3/4" that was restored by Turnbull and tuned by Hamilton Bowen by the former owner and forum member. This one has not been shot since the restoration but I do shoot the other and will continue to do so. Take it out and enjoy it.

Pasote:
Colt Custom Shop is not closed. They are open, but at this time just working on the 1911 platform guns. They have stopped doing any SAA's for as yet to be determined amount of time.
The Colt SAA is still in production, but, at the rate of 30-80 guns per month.
Personally, I think that Colt would like to see the SAA just go away.

My 1979 production .357 sat NIB (along with an identical one and another in .45 Colt) in my brother's safe until I traded him out of it a couple of years ago. Have been meaning to shoot the hogleg, but just haven't got around to it yet.

Nice. A local shop has a first year 2nd Gen in .38 spl. that looks much like yours. I've handled it a few times, but just can't come up with the $2k they want.

I did go shoot a few cylinders out of the Heston NRA today. Its official on longer unfired.

Good job then! Maybe I'll get off my butt and shoot mine. Am itching to shoot this Ruger NV too - 6 months old & still a virgin....

Those Grashorns are beauliful - I have thought about having Patrick make some for the new Vaquero to replace the Altamont "bonded ivory" (epoxy). How long did it take?

He had mine done in a few days after receiving my frame. It being a Colt, they had to be fitted.
You may be able to get some for the Ruger without fitting. I think their frames are all the same size. If so, you can probably just email him with what you want.
