This is the first new S&W (re: lock & MIM) I have even considered buying. The price was decent and I've been wanting a W&K 44 special, but they are a little out of my price range. It's nickel with odd colored grips. I will probably put Altamounts on it when I get it in hand.

Pros & cons? Do you have one? Likes or dislikes?

I have several of the older versions. your barrel looks thinner, more pencil tapered at least towards the frame. That and lack of numbers on the cylinder and maybe other parts will keep me old style....but,then again thats just me...God bless Texas!

Well, me too. I didn't notice the lock until it was too late to turn back. :( I have read some pretty good reviews on timing and function. Plus it is a 4" 44 Special, so it's not a total loss! :D

With it being the bright nickel, how would I tell if it's a Lew Horton? And why no S&W on the frame?

WOW...no logo on the frame, I didnt notice that..But it being a 44 special...thats the icing on the cake!

I have one that I occasionally shoot in my local ICORE games. Bottom line, I love it and am completely satisfied with it. All I did to it was to replace the front sight with a migivern brass dot. The dot shows up clearly for action shooting.

Never had a problem with it. A fun and accurate gun

Here it is with my M24-3.

These were originally made with the Thunder Ranch logo on the sideplate. Later production examples may have just omitted it. Why no S & W logo? No one told them to put it on? Just a guess.

I was actually bidding on one, nickel, like your's, short barrel,, and was winning for maybe a week, LOL... They are lovely except for the manhole by the cylinder release latch,, oh well...

No logo??

No S&W logo is puzzling. Anyone with any theories?

Buehler, Buehler?

I wouldn't read too much into it not having a logo, as Smith and Wesson has been in business a long time, they at various times have proven that they do what they want, when they want, if they want, LOL. So, take this with a grain of salt, but at various times, S&W has changed it up, just to suit themselves...

The 21-4 was re-introduced with the Thunder Ranch Special. These had serial prefixes of "TRS" and there was a run of 2600. In 2005 a run of 250 nickel 21-4's was made. Mine has the serial prefix of "CJK" and Product Number of 150013. They made CCH, blue and nickel guns later with no gold overlays. This all comes from the SCSW Ed V.

My initial nickel and blue TRS guns...

BTW, those are Altamont stocks on that gun already.

Adios,

Just dragged my minty-in-box nickel 21-4 out of the safe. Serial # has a DCL prefix that is laser etched (?) VERY lightly, hard to read. I have always adored he looks of the original SB 21 with 4" bbl; this one looks 'off' with its RB. May see if a SB conversion grip is available. Like too many of my 'gotta-haves,' a bit disappointing.

My 21-4 sleeps in the dark.......You might hit a barn iffen you wuz on the inside..........My mdl 22 just like it is very accurate with AR or acp.

That is not my experience, my 21-4 shoot just fine. But then again, I replaced the front sight too.

I do wish I could find a 22-4 ( at a reasonable cost) as a stable mate to my 21-4

I have a pair of blued ones without the TR bling, cured the lock on both and found some hogue wooden grips I love, mine get shot a lot and sometimes carried.

Very happy I found them lightly used for a good price. I think this is one of the lightest all steel N frames they made.
