I celebrated my day off by heading out to an old friend's 50 acres & putting some rounds down range! I shot my slicked up snub nose Model 15 and my green Glock 17 (hey, it's a free country guys).

God Bless America and the men who fought to make it free & keep it free.

I was honored to serve under Ronald Reagan from '83 to '86, but my dad was the real soldier in my family, Army infantry in WWII 1944-1945. He passed a couple weeks before 9/11 back in 2001.

Mom took me out to dinner. THe kids are getting ready for deercamp weekend, but it was kinda nice just me and mom. U.S. Navy 75 thru 79.

Went to my local gun shop & paid for the CZ-P01 compact 9mm I put on hold last week. Wife & I then went to Applebees for their free veterans dinner.
A good day!

Worked, of course. At least traffic was light as all our overworked and underpaid Federal employees had a paid day off.

Just enjoyed living in this old "military town" Camp Lejeune is the engine that makes the world go around here. What with the marine Corps birthday yesterday and veteran's day today, it has been a blast.

God Bless all of our troops!

US Army 1955-75. After I put up the flag, I went out shooting with an old friend, who fought in the Battle of the Bulge. We shot an Underwood M1 carbine and a Smith Corona 03-A3. A great day!

Went to the range to set up for Sat's IDPA match, but had to call people in to clean up the mess from vandals destroying the Bianchi barricades and IDPA props.

Guess the "DO NOT SHOOT" on the barricades was too complicated to understand. Or maybe that was the smallest thing they could hit with their new ARs. The piles of Lake City 5.56mm surplus brass were about 15 feet away from the barricades.

I went to work and was very busy, also once again wondered why veterans have to work on Veteran's Day. Anyone that has served and was honorably discharged or is serving should have the day off by law. Why do those that haven't served their country have the day off ??? Shoo

First of all I would like to say I agree with Shoo...

Anyways, I went to work, went for a run in Army PT's (for old time sakes), grilled some deer tenderloins on the grill, then partaked in a few American beers, and just a little bit of the finest spirits from Kentucky. All in all it was a very good day.

I spent Veterans Day waiting 6 hours (should of been 2 hours) for a helicopter to take me from Kandahar Airfield to another FOB so I could fix a computer. Well, my buddies gave up on me arriving so there I was standing on a Helicopter Landing Zone at 8PM at night with no idea where to go.
Luckily, a Navy LT drove up to pick up two people and he said to "go up the hill, pass the guard shack and the first building on the left is the Dutch Army transient building. The LT would of gave me a ride but the SUV was full. So I hoofed it up the hill, (glad my 50 Plus heart was up to the challenge) and was the guest of the Dutch Army.
The next morning a soldier finally showed up to retrieve me, and I did my job, and flew back to my FOB.
Sorry for the length of the post but we have a lot of our and other countries finest here and in Iraq trying to give these nations a chance at democracy or at least a chance at freedom.

Left Wed afternoon after my son got out of school. We headed down to Danville, VA. Spent the night then first thing Thurs we hit the American Armoured Foundation tank museum. Over 100 military vehicles from WW1 to present day. Then over to Bedford, VA to the D-Day Memorial. Very moving experience. Finished it up at Appromattox touring the McLean house where Gen Lee signed the surrender of the Army Of Northern Va. A wonderful trip. Very light traffic. Leaves were still in full color and we ate some great BBQ.

Here's a few photos

Thanks to all who serve past and present.

I took the day off work and spent the early morning getting the house ready for a cook out planned for tonight. Late morning my son and I went to the Legion Hall to help set up for our Veterans Day Dinner. At noon my son and I went to the local VFW and enjoyed their Veterans Day lunch. In the evening we went back to the American Legion for our Veterans Day dinner where I gave a short speech in the importance of saving electronic correspondence.

i went shopping at my favorite local bookstore and while there i thanked a world war 2 navy veteran for his service.

Went to the rifle club to do some plinking. Later iin the day Pugsters and I went to Veterans Memorial Park in Collegedale. Met a veteran of WW2 who looked to be well into his 80s in full dress uniform. Wonderful gentleman who had some stories to share of his experience in Europe. Came home, fired up the electric grill and had a couple adult beverages while surfing the Internet with iPad reading about Nightforce and Mark4 scopes trying to decide.....

Shot my PC627 UDR's at the FOP range to start the day - stopped by the pusher's lair to drool over new S&W offerings - drove right past Applebee's - and my free lunch. Crackers and cottage cheese with my cat would suffice. Missed the gun club meeting that evening. Basically, I was just sad - feeling sad about so many of our fine young warriors who have been maimed in so many wars. Veteran's Day seems to be for those brave souls - not so much for those of us who made it through our enlistment unscathed. Somehow, I still feel guilt over not going in harm's way.

It's another day - I still have deep feelings - and my undying gratitude - for those brave warriors. May the Good Lord give them Peace. Blue funk is over - time to clean what I nastified yesterday - and make some ammo - and rake the yard...

My first veterans day off ever and I wasted it. caught me off guard and I didnt have time to make plans. i did find a set of factory grips for my 66 round butt. 25 bucks so it was not a total waste.

Thanks to all that have and continue to serve.

+1,I also noticed that all of the county parks that I passed by were locked up.One of the larger parks there were people standing at the gate wondering what to do.Some even started their celebrations by the canals fishing pavilion.
Yep those county workers need their time off. With pay.
I work anytime I can.Today I got cancelled.No money for me.

Peyton,
My hat is off to you Sir.
My deepest thanks to you and all the other service personnel past present and future for standing between us and our enemies.

Went and watched the wreath laying ceremony at the veteran's cemetery in a snow storm.
Made plans to pick up two other old farts and take them to the gun show this weekend.
Went to get groceries with Itchy.
Finally got an appt. for getting a bum knee scoped next week.
Other than that it was a pretty quiet day.

Neat Veterans Day

My son got off the plane at Ramstein after commanding a combat unit in Afghanistan-his third tour. No WIAs/KIAs in his unit-mission done. That's the standard.
