So is it just me or can one literally stare at the pictures in this thread for hours? Better than a day at the museum ;)

45 ACP's

Here is a pair of 45 ACP's

The blued gun is a 25-2. It was custom built by the Jovino gun shop in NYC.

The SS gun is a 625-2 with a 3" barrel. This is one fun gun to shoot!

While certainly "not" a CC handgun, would love to have an X Frame 460 in 3.5" barrel. It would be a good companion to my 8 3/8" 460. It would be more practical for routine carry when traveling the two-tracks around the house! memtb

That 25-2!!!!!!

Yes indeed!

Here is a ad from Jovino's showing their conversions.

It is funny that they use the 'EFFECTOR' verbiage on these early guns, but they were not marked EFFECTOR until Jovino started leaving the front locking lug in place. To make matters even more muddy, I have a EFFECTOR model 58 that has not had the barrel cut at all....figure that one out ;)

My newest friend

This is my newest S&W. A 29 that I'm still trying to identify. Paid too much, looks like carp, very tight and EXTRA smooth action. Don't care what it looks like, don't care that I overpaid. I wanted it, I love it, I, shoot it, don't have to treat it like a fragile baby and I scored 2 four inch, ss, Redhawk 45 colts with it.

I have a couple of them. S&W 329 Nightguard in .44 Magnum, and a S&W 629 "Alaska" that came in a fancy box with a knife and firestarter and compass.

All these big bore snubbies all look real impressive, but I wonder how many folks have actually FIRED them? Especially with full power loads. A .44 magnum with a lightweight titanium frame, 2 inch barrel, and a full power load is downright BRUTAL. I fired my 329 Nightguard with full power loads and didn't even get passed 25 shots out of the box of 50. My hand was beet red and hurt like hades. Now I am sure there are guys with hands like a gorilla and can shoot full house magnum loads all day without blinking an eye. But I am betting they are few and far between.

Gun stores used to love it when Dirty Harry played on TV. The next day they would be swamped with orders for the Model 29 .44 magnum. A week after they sold those guns, they were all back in the display case because the owners found them too painful to shoot. They are NOT fun guns. Fun to look at...sure. Fun to shoot...nope.
