So Who's a 5" Barrel Fan?

No pics on hand, but I bought 1953 vintage 5" M&P a few months back. Shooter grade, with the speed hammer.

I always wanted a 5" 27, but not at the prices being asked now.
A chop job on 6" model 19 or 66 may be in the future.

I saw there was a special run some years ago of 686s 1/2 lug with 5" barrel. I'd love to stumble across one, but again, $$ may be an obstacle.

So, yes, I do like 5" barrels as versatile field guns. My fave in hog country was a 5 1/2" Super Blackhawk. Just long enough to wear on the hip while behind the wheel.

The 5" N frames have long been my favorites, BLUEDOT37.

Here are three I'm currently working up hand-loads for utilizing the new Alliant BE-86 powder.

The top one is a 629-6 Classic with X frame grips. The second is a 27-2 with factory "footballs". The
third is a recently purchased 627-5 now with Jerry Miculek grips.

It seems many who shoot the various frames with a 5" barrel find it quickly becomes their favorite length...

PR 24 and wolverine....

If you're still having trouble finding a good holster for a 5"
N frame try a 6-6 1/2" Bianchi Cyclone. Have it cut by a good
leathersmith to 5 1/4".

This holster fits all my N frame 5" guns perfectly including the
half and full lug guns and the 627 PC...

Got a couple

Here are my two five inchers: a Hand Ejector from about 1908 and an Army Special from about 1925, both in .32-20. Had to amend the post to add a newly acquired British Service Revolver, 5 inches and .38 S&W aka 38-200. So it's three 5 inchers now.

5 for me

When limited by finances I had to make the one and only choice for me. A 629 5 inch. Balances well, clears the holster fast, not too heavy to pack in my Diamond D guides choice chest holster and has a good compromise ballistic between too short and too long. Love the 5.

I have a couple, 625-4 and I was the crazy guy who recently bought a 625-5 on GB. Still waiting for it to get here. Being in Canada the 5 inch guns are the best option. Can't buy any 4 inch - so that prevents acquiring some pretty nice revolvers.

Picked this one up yesterday from Keith44special.
1954 vintage 38/44 Outdoorsman that Dave cut down to 5" and sent to the "bumper shop" for some plating.
So far?????????? It's unfired.

My Model 27 was lonesome.

As the old timers said, these 5 inchers got better balance than most any revolver around.

I was lucky enough to find one a few years ago at a gunshow... everyone thought it was "wrong"... heard more than one person say "they never made that gun"... hopefully when you do see one... you jump while others just walk by... the dealer might lack the knowledge so you can leverage for a deal... good luck... they are out there... my brother found one too... he paid more...lol
