So you think you have a pretty stock in your safe? Well do ya?

Kurak Grips

Here is my latest Kurak grips, shown on a nickel Mod. 27, made for me from 55yr. old Curly Maple woodthe trees were planted by my wife & mother in our back yard, and had to be removed two years ago. The stripe figure is very fine, and hard to see in a picture.

I will be forever greatfull to all of you guys for showing me a new source of fire wood for next winter......No ! Wait, not yours, MINE! I'm burning every stock in my safe....showoffs.I'm experimenting with a new synthetic for stabile stocks in all weather. I can't reveal the proprietary info but, I will tell that toothpaste and cow dung are major ingredients. Very "green " and renewable source of material. I'm just sayin',Nick OH Yeah! and by the way you guys all have some beautiful wood, and no, I'm not a bit envious. [Hurumpppp] Nick

That is amazing. Is that custom wood?

I have never seen an Anschutz who's wood didn't look like it was taken from a pallet. Anschutz around here are known for the bland and nasty looking wood.

I have never seen a 54 as pretty as that.

Well done sir - Well done.

Anschutz Wood

Dave,

Original as far as I know. 50 years ago, maybe Anschutz figured a high priced rifle should look like one.

My 1813 has very nice wood but nothing like the old one.

What, no elm stocks ???

1915 M96 Swedish Mauser. An m.o.a. buster for sure.

I think the duct tape gives this picture that certain Tennessee aspect of things.

I absolutely love elm stocks on Swedish Mausers. Unfortunately I never found one. Yours is lovely.

Glad this thread was brought back from the dead. Some outstanding wood here, makes me drool...:)

Here are a couple more - A Browning bolt action in 7mm mag (poor cell phone pic). I didn't need it, I liked it, so..

And my TC Custom Shop Hawken .50 cal. Drove up to their shop in NH and picked out this rifle. Man they had some pretty wood up there. The shop burned down shortly after words.

A seven year old thread, now can I not participate? I used to like fancy wood, but as I've gotten older, I don't care as much. Straight, tight grained walnut is all I need. But, here's some older stuff:

Roy Fishpaw exhibition French walnut:

A maple Roy Fishpaw called Western Myall - I like how maple changes over time. I gave away the model 18 in the first picture, but kept the grips. You had to send your gun to Mr. Fishpaw to have the grips fitted, and he wasn't kidding! I tried them on almost a dozen K-frames from several decades, and it was a no go. I had to send them back to him with the M&P they're on now to have them re-fitted. The two pictures were taken approximately ten years apart:

Herrett's Jordan Trooper:

CZ 452 - I didn't win the "wood lottery" - for a while they advertised it with a fancy stock for more moola - about $500.00 for the rifle and upgrade, if I remember correctly:

That's enough wasted bandwidth from me. :)
