Anyone know of a brand of solar LED walkway lights that are brighter than a firefly? 
Most don't seem worth the effort or expense.

Sorry DB. I haven't found any worth a darn.
I think low voltage stuff on a solar time is still the best option. I'd be interested if you find some out there though!

That's the problem, you can't find them anymore since the Chinese import el cheapos arrived. I've got a set of the low voltage transformer type now that are about 14 years old, but the system is starting to look pretty tired and I was hoping there was a decent alternative.

Pass by the big box stores and head to the lighting-specific joints. They'll have some good stuff. If you don't find anything there talk to a landscaper.
You get what you pay for so bring a healthy stack of folding money!

DB... Give it up... stay with the low voltage.. even here in Florida all you get with solar lights is.. a weak firefly
As they say.. been there done that.. and now the low voltage lights come in LED.. no more replacing bulbs and a bit brighter.. I'd say Home Depot is calling your name

I've bought a bunch of cheap ones from a local big box store. Look at
the boxes they come in. Each type has a brightness rating in lumens
on the box. In general the larger diameter ones are brighter and stay
on longer. Two different lights selling for $3, one is 3" dia and the
other is 5" dia and has a larger solar cell with more surface area
exposed to sunlight = better performance.

Now if someone could point me to a brand that doesn't rust away in a year?
The $15 lights with the glass globes are pretty but the tinfoil stakes that hold them off the ground and the fittings on the housing self destruct after one season.
And the batteries are junk, too.
I'm starting to think I should buy the plastic cheapies and toss them every year.

My neighbour has a bunch of those firefly lights in her yard. These devices have so many contradictory things going on it is no wonder they do not last. You need the Sun on the cell to generate the electricity to charge the batteries. But, the Sun brings lots of heat which is bad for the batteries. You know it won't end well.
