Dear sage members of the Smith & Wesson Forum (and all the other members as well :p),

In less than three weeks, I'll be getting married. It is customary, I guess, for the groom to get a gift for his groomsmen. As if getting to be in my wedding wasn't enough of a gift! ;)

I was hoping for some input, in regard to both my current idea as well as other possibilities. I have four groomsmen: my brother, my two existing brothers in law, and my soon to be brother in law. I'm leaning toward getting a Kershaw Chive with their initials engraved on the handle. It's one gift that could be the same for all and something I can see each using. I'd like something practical. I'm leaning toward the Kershaw Chive because it's relatively inexpensive, a good knife (I've own a few Kershaw Leeks and love 'em) AND American made.

Any thoughts on the idea? Would you be pleasantly surprised if you received such a gift? How about another American made knife that might be a good choice as well? Fixed or folding... doesn't matter. Or, any totally different ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Ski

I've been in a ton of weddings, and all the gifts were crappy. Go with the knife. If you want them to be really special, get the groomsmens names engraved on them. They'll love it.

All that I ever got or gave was matching neckties for the party. I think someone gave me cufflinks once. I only know/knew poor people.

I'd be pleasantly surprised. A little 2" "dress pocketknife", that I could open one-handed, and it locks. AND it had my initials on it? That would be cool. Would beat the heck out of a tie pin or a pair of cuff links or a crystal doo-dad, or some of the other junk people give as "I'm supposed to give these (x-amount of) people a gift".

Kinfe is a great idea. I bet they will be around long after the silver whatever with engraved initials on it.

Regards

Bill

Ha. Was going to suggest a good knife. Or a very nice beer mug. But more use would likely come of the knife.

Nobody I know uses a beer mug. Why should you? Comes in those handy dandy premeasured containers that fit so right in your hands.

Knives are the way to go

Received a Swiss Army knife and it is the best gift I received from the many weddings I was a groomsman.

At my wedding, each of my groomsmen received a Swiss Army knife.

I think knives make great gifts for the groomsmen.

Good Luck,
glen

my brother in law's best friend got his groomsman all a rolex...of course he was stationed overseas in the airforce and they were a lot cheaper. i got my groomsman a gift personalized to each of their likes. my wife's brother got an engraved sterling silver flask as he had just turned 21 and was enjoying it. my brother was 17 and could not use a flask. he is a "gamer" so his gift was video game related. the other two groomsman also got gifts specific to them.

my brother got me a gift card to gamestop. although i occasionally play video games, ther was not much there that i wanted or needed, but i still managed to find something to spend it on.

I got my groomsmen Buck pocket knives.
Hard to beat a Buck. They'll outlast you and don't cost much. I've had a Buck 305 folder for almost 35 years. It's a keeper.:D

Personalized knives is a great idea, much nicer than the trinkets I got for being a groomsman...

Your idea is great. When I got married I gave my guys long aluminum LED flashlights with their initials engraved on the battery cap. Everyone needs a flashlight in your car/truck.

I was of the understanding that because gifted knives may sever a relationship, so there must always be a payment made for it, even just a single coin, so the knife is purchased and not gifted; YMMV. I gave my groomsmen each a Fossil blue watch (we're going back 15 years), which went over well and I was proud to have done. Still have mine.
