A member of our local gun forum posted a couple of photos of a revolver his wife picked up for him at a yard sale. She thought it would be a good project for him. The owner said it had been in a box on the carport for 15 years. He had no idea what it was and was looking for info on it. We figured out that it's a 1st year production Triple Lock.

OK, which one of you purists is going to chime in to say it should be preserved just as it is with no restoration work done? Come on, you know you want to. I'd be opening a dialog with keith44spl and one with Hondo44 and going for a serious rehab. That's just me of course, and YMMV.

A good soaking in rust-removing solution might show (relatively) little metal damage underneath the rust. Just behind the trigger, inside the guard, a small area of this seems to have rubbed off.

Given the tall front sight and the butt swivel, along with the 1917 Army stocks, I would not be at all surprised to find it is a .455.

Did he / you give it any kind of function test? I'll bet it still shoots! (Although that would be foolish at this point!)

Not to pry, but did she get it for a yard sale price? If he doesn't want to tackle this project, and you don't either, get him to post it in the Classifieds!

With the right TLC it may be not bad at all. Some of the rust does look to be more than just surface rust, but you can't cry over what's done.
