I purchased them one week a part, my good friend is an FFL. So I get a great price, as in wholesale. They are brand new and will sit nicely in the safe next to my six week old Mod. 29. Yes, I'm on a .44 kick, too. Love them.

When I ordered the 7.5" the smaller one wasn't available. No sooner than I pick the 7.5" up, the next day my buddy called and RSR had exactly one. I told him to grab it and low and behold, I have the two I've wanted for a long time. The next one and I'll be good will be the 627 PC twin to the 629. After examining these PC examples, I cannot see ordering a standard S&W revolver, again.

Bill:

Would you please share with me the designation of this 44 ? Is it a 629 Performance Center with the 2.625 inch barrel, which is S&W SKU #170135.

Or is this a 3 inch barrel? Or how do I get one :)?

I like the 44s too.

Thanks.

Sir.
It is a true 3 inch barrel.
I found it in a used gun rack.
I go to gun shops and gunshows looking for bargains. This gun was a bargain. I bought it.
I have no idea when made or how many made.
You would have to walk the aisles of many gunshops and gunshows to find another. I have never seen another live, fixed sight, .44 N frame.
I am not giving you much help, sorry.

Thank you Bill. A super nice 44 that you have there.

Never been a fan of the unfluted cylinder, but some of those PC barrels are just too cool.

My only unfluted cylinder gun is a 627-0 and I wish it had a normal cylinder.

I think I finally got used to them. Not repulsive any more. Just there. But given the option? Flutes, please!

Speaking of performance center wheel guns, here are some more:

Top to bottom; 327 M&P R8, 327 JM, 586 no lock power port and 686 carry comp.

Great guns, all of them...

I can hear the cry's of anguish and heritic being typed now.:)
The performance center has good craftsmen, They can do anything you dream up---but they will not do anything you dream up.
They must keep company policy on changes made.
Some here will throw up at the thought of changeing a "thing" on a P&R--but the PC will do it to a degree.
There are good Smiths all over that will change your gun to almost any degree you can afford to pay.
I like changeing guns to suit my desires.
Those are some good looking project guns.
Projects are fun.
Blessings
