Stopped at a LE supplier today as they usually have +p 158gr LHP/LSWCHP even when you can't find it anywhere else. The retired old-timer said he hadn't seen any for a while, but he said he had something else that he'd only rarely seen. (Sorry, no pics at the moment) - It's in a regular Winchester white box labeled as 125gr. +p (can't remember the bullet type listed). The rounds are brass cased LSWCHP, +p marked.

I've never seen or heard of this loading. I know Winchester will do special runs for LE, but this is the first time I've seen this particular loading. I picked up 2 boxes for the heck of it. I figure it should perform well out of either my 4" or 3" Smiths.

It's not catalogued that I can find. Either it's a new loading or possibly a contract overrun released to the commercial market.

What's the product number on the end flap? That's a way to trace more information about it.

I don't know that it's rare -- if it were, I doubt I'd have 2.5 boxes of it right now...

Well, I should've looked for more than a split second, because it's SJSP. Hope it's still a decent load because I'm running very low on FBI loads.

I agree on the copper jacket with a lead tip design with a HP.

That is their standard bullet used for many years and it does well
in a 38 and 357 loading for SD use, for an "Old" bullet.

Remingtom also has a "Old" 110 & 125 sjlhp bullet design that
was made in the same time zone, that works just as well.

I would not feel "under gunned" with either of these bullets in a
snub nose 38, if I did not have the "New" 135 or 130 JHST SD loads.

I have a bunch of it, but I haven't used shot any yet. White box ammo.

At one time there was a real all lead HP bullet that was a mild +P
for the 38 revolver called the

Nyclad.

I nave a few older boxes of the Nyclan ammo and 2 of that limited new release Nyclad ammo.

I remember the Nyclad 38 Special +P 125 grain hollowpoint. Instead of a sharp-shouldered semi-wadcutter, it was more of a round nose with a huge hollow cavity.

I believe thee thinkest of the Federal version of the load. If memory serves, Federal bought the rights to the cartridge and redesigned the bullet. My examples, a couple of boxes of Federals and a jealously-guarded box of the original Smith and Wesson Chiefs Special load which uses the semi-wadcutter hollow-point, are standard pressure. I carry the Federals in my Model 38 or in my 1938-vintage Colt Detective Special on the rare occasions I carry it. I wish Federal would re-market the cartridge.

OOPS! Yep, Federal Nyclad, this thread is about a Winchester load. My bad. :o

That's the issue load for the Model 64 revolvers we carried at one federal agency. At other times we purchased either Black Hills or Federal 125 grain JHP...depending on cost.

soft point ?

cda322 on second post(#4) corrected to SJSP ........Winchester made 125gr soft point WinClean(wc381) labeled ammo years ago

This WW JHP bullet has been around for a long time…I started seeing them in the late 1970s early 1980s. They pale compared to today's bullet types. Great range ammo though.

Here you go.

Win 125gr +P SJHP, I think I still have a couple of boxes of that from when I bought my first 686. Big difference shooting that load and the Remington Green box 125 SJHP 357 Mag. With the Remington even if the bullet missed the guy the muzzle flash would likely mark him for later.
