ive decided to jump ship, Don't get me wrong I love my M&P 40 full size love love love it... But I went to the range this afternoon and decided im going to try something else and picked up a generation 4 glock 19 9mm I was shocked, literally shocked how much more accurate I was with the glock over my s&w... I actually shot them side by side.. 15 thru one then 15 thru the other at same distances the glock was obviously more accurate... I have 0ver a 1000 rds thru my m&p and never shot a glock before today.. How can 2 guns be so completely different... the m&p feels better in my hands but the glock was smoother, dunno... going to own them both now though either way ...

Lol. I just posted a thread like this on the Beretta forum. I sold my last one to get my fullsized M&P and have extra $$'s. I didn't say sorry though. You shouldn't either. People's tastes change.

My M&P 40 with storm lakes conversion barrel is as accurate as my gen3 G19... Coulda saved yourself some money and just bought the conversion barrel & mags.

I'm a longtime GLOCK shooter and love the way they shoot.

Congrats on finding your fit. If everyone's hand and grip were the same there wouldn't be so many different handgun options out there.

Let us know when you get yours.

Edmo

Shoot what works for you.

Glocks have always felt wrong in my hand but I shoot them well.
M&Ps feel great in my hand but I don't shoot them much better than Glocks.

I've tried them all, even bought some.

Non come close to the good old Colt in lightweight commander or government model.

doc sun shine.... My m&p has a storm lake polished 40 barrel, apex alum trigger kit with the 3 1/2 lb pull and ive been shooting it like I said 1000 rounds.. my groups from 5 to 25yards are fairly tight... Obviously at 5 to 10 yards I can group round after round just outside or mainly inside the center target...10yards plus the groups become staggered all inside the 3 rings of center... But today with the glock from 5 yards to 25 yards I was either missing the target or putting round after round after round thru center mass and slightly enlarging the previous hole shot after shot... I then thought NO cant be and picked up my gun again and the shot points were same as always staggered outside 10 yards... Like I said the glock doesn't feel as comfortable in my hands, Im a mechanic I have medium sized hands that are well callus but the gun shot true at where I was holding it... I dunno hard to explain but when I was done firing 200 rds today I was very impressed with the rental gun...

...the glock was obviously more accurate...
The Glock is not more accurate, it's you that are more accurate with that gun. I wouldn't dream of talking someone out of a gun they shoot better. This is after all the goal, find the gun you shoot best.

I had a couple of Glocks. Then one day I shot a 1911. I never looked back. Yes, I have a couple of M&Ps and even a few other guns. Still, the 1911 is the one I shoot best. So, it sends the most rounds down range. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy the other guns, it's just the one I shoot best.

In competitions or for carry, you'll find a 1911 in my hand. The point is that you have to find the gun that works best for you. If that's the Glock, then get one and shoot it a lot.

I can shoot a 9mm better than I can a 40. I can shoot the Glock 26 as well as my M&P 9c. I like the 9c better.

Im with rastoff i love my shields 9 and 40 but in competition and for accuracy its my good old colt gold cup i shoot the best

My first weapon was a G23c many years ago but still have it and fun to shoot. However, I now own quite a few Smiths & Colts. As noted by another, each has its place and function. The important thing is to shoot them and enjoy the pleasure of doing so in this great country.

beat me to it :p

Comfortable grip isn't always the best grip.

I used the large back straps initially as they were more comfortable. I changed to medium for someone else to shoot the gun and forgot to change them before a competition straight after.

Out of the holster and that first shot improved noticeably. I won't say dramatically, but enough to flip between the two straps until I was sure and finally settled with the medium.

Shoot what you shoot best... brand loyalty is over rated when it comes to firearms. The ones you can name off the top of your head are much of a muchness when it comes to the crunch. It's just what suits you better and after that... aesthetics I guess. Aesthetics is pretty much the only reason I don't own a Glock.

Congrats on your new Glock M&PMike. While I absolutely love my M&P 40, I'm not "brand loyal". Also own a few Rugers, a Browning and a Charter Arms. Each one fills the niche they were designed for perfectly. I love them all!

Kinda like the old Ford vs Chevy vs Mopar thing some cars guys obsess about. To me cool cars are cool cars, and nice firearms are nice firearms. Never been one to only drive a Chevy, or Ford, or Mopar. Being a car guy and not an "Brand X Only" car guy, I have owned them all and enjoyed them all. :D

Enjoy your new pistol.

Why do you think S&W copied GLOCK with their SD9/40 series...its a Glock clone...I own them both...but GLOCK rules the polymer world...that just my opinion FWIW...

Exactly. For some, the Glock's grip angle and low axis results in better grouping and accuracy. For others, it just doesn't work. It definitely works for you and that's what counts. :)

I like the grip angle of the Glock. It allows me to 'lock in' my wrists easier.
... but I can shoot my Shield9 just as well as my G26, so I carry the Shield. :)

You don't have to be sorry. I tried most of the M&P line and didn't care for them. To me the perfect carry gun is the G19. That being said I would be a HK fan boy if it weren't for their prices

I shot my son-in-laws Glock 19 the other day. Very tight shot groupings. Do I regret owning my SD40VE? Absolutely not. Different caliber sand, as others have said, different niche. I'd be happy to own either.

I believe Modeler is on to something with his post, as well as Robzguns and Rastoff to a similar extent. One: caliber. The 9mm can be an extremely accurate caliber. Two: gun style/grip angle.
You went from a 40 to a 9. And additionally you changed the gun feel as it sits in your hand. Grips, and their accompanying "feel" in the shooters hand can make a world of difference in the shooters ability to hit the target. For example, I cannot use the large, beautifully styled and manufactured, Smith and Wesson wooden grips.... They just don't help me. Put a set of small Pachmyar's on the gun or a set of Hogue's and I can't miss.

Caliber makes a difference too. The 9 can be wonderfully accurate and most times is. The 40, on the other hand, seems to be adequate but not overly exacting, in my opinion. Just my experience. That may have made quite some difference for you in this example of your experience with the two different guns and their respective calibers. All in all I think that's your experience as so many of the other posters have noted in this thread. When I was instructing my department, I saw many of the different kinds of shooters we all see. Fortunately, my department allowed officers to choose between a variety of calibers (9, 40, 45) for autos. The department issue was a Glock but they could choose the caliber. Many times, I had to steer an officer to a particular caliber because they shot it better than others calibers. Same thing with guns. Your experience is typical.

No need to be sorry for better shooting!!!

I would like to say I agree with all of you... they didn't have a glock in 40 cal for me to rent just the 9 and that's why I fired that one... I would also like to see if the 40 glock would be as accurate as the 9 was for me... would benefit me if I did buy another 40 in glock, 40 cal ammo is the same regardless correct ? I have a ton of 40 s&w ammo ...

I agree to get them both.

I have a Glock G19 and a S&W Shield in 9mm. I shoot both equally well, one is no more accurate than the other. Now my Colt 1911 Series 70 is a pleasure to shot but I'm as accurate with it as the other two and my .357 wheel gun. Now the one gun I shoot the best and most consistently is my High Standard Victor .22LR (no felt recoil).

All are accurate.

I agree to get them both.
If you just shoot for fun, then get both. If you shoot for competition or self-defense, then I'd counsel against owning these two guns. Well, you could keep one for fun and the other for serious shooting.

The reason is the grip angle.

If a shooter uses an M&P and practices with it a lot, they will typically have trouble at first with a Glock. The reverse is the same. Why? The grip angle. Because the Glock has a more angled grip, it points differently. I'm not going to say it's wrong, but it is different.

When practicing with either gun, muscle memory will eventually be developed. Ultimately, a shooter will find one gun better than the other. However, when switching between them, the gun not used as much will be slower to get on target and more difficult to be accurate with.

I saw your post over there, and believe I even responded to it as SeventyGTX. I sold my G19 Gen4 in favor of my newly acquired 92FS Inox compact. Still have my M&P and doubt I will ever sell it as it just fits my hand so well and is easy to take down.

But I am more accurate with the Beretta than either the Glock or M&P. I would have kept the Glock, but used it to fund another compact Beretta. This time a black 92fs compact. I swear no allegiance to any brand, just enjoy the ones that work best for me. :)

I have a Glock 19 that I absolutely love for all the reasons you do. However, Glock does not have a single stack 9 which I really wanted for EDC. I got a lot of recommendations for the Shield so I bought one. It is perfect for what I want, these guns coexist just fine.
