Sounds like a pretty effective strategy to me

The story about the trenches was largely put together by media observers. It's entirely possible that the sources are Israeli and the concept was real.

However, there is also the thing about the Israeli government needing some positive PR after being caught napping on the missiles.

The amount of ordnance Hamas has been able to launch from Gaza, sufficient to overload and overwhelm Iron Dome and cause serious damage and casualties in Israel, has been a huge embarrassment for Bibi, the Mossad and the IDF.

These missiles, most no doubt made in Iran by the godfathers of Hamas, weren't supposed to be getting in. It has been speculated that a primary purpose of the current dust-up on the part of Hamas is to demonstrate to the mullahs that their investment in terror is paying dividends, in keeping the area destabilized. That's certainly working out.

Seems as if mankind has always looked for a reason to be "wronged" by his fellow man. And will find a reason, even if it is just in his own mind.

Saturday sermon over. Sorry bout that!

War is man. Man is war.
It's what we, as a species, do.
We are pretty good at it.

R/E the "Iron Dome" missile system. Hamas has launched over 3000 rockets this past week, and only a handful have gotten thru. Seems to be pretty effective. I wouldn't want to think of the damage to Israel if all 3 thousand had gotten thru.

Its going to be a whole different ball game if Israel and Iran go at it.

Yep.

If that's the case maps will read "The Radioactive Exclusion Zone of the Country Formerly Know as Iran".

"If the Arabs put down their weapons today, there would be no more ‎violence.
If the Jews put ‎down their weapons ‎today, there would be no more Israel."

Attributed to Netanyahu, maybe Golda Meir, or maybe a former Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs.
True. And if your kitchen table were the middle east, the Israelis have a territory the size of a matchbook. But the Arab nations that occupy and possess ALL the rest of the "table" will not be content until they also have that matchbook-sized piece of land and Israel is no more.
So is it really about that one little patch of desert? I don't think so...

As for the strategy of "using" the media to "set up" Hamas, well, at least somebody figured out a way for the MSM to be made useful for something. Its about time their false reporting did some good for a change.

There is much to discuss with regards to this ongoing operation, however at the moment I am very engaged with contacts in Israel, not to mention my kids and grandkids (one of whom is knee-deep in the goings on as an officer and combat medic in a search and rescue battalion). Unfortunately for me Ben Gurion International is basically closed, and that coupled with the 10-14 day quarantine for returning Israeli's even if I could get over makes this a very difficult situation for me personally. My old brigade has been brought south and positioned on the outskirts of the border with Gaza, along with my old reserve battalion. In the past when I've been out of country and war/conflict breaks out I've been able to deadhead on air force/El Al cargo flights to join my unit. Needless to say sitting here and watching Israeli news broadcasts is, to say the least, very frustrating for me.
I will have more to say in due time.

It's unfortunate that civilians end up as casualties, particularly if indeed used as human shields.

Most of us remember where we were on 9/11. I happened to be stuck overseas and I vividly recall videos of Palestinians in the West Bank: men, women, and yes, children, celebrating the murders of thousands of our own innocent civilians.

Those children back then are in their 20s now and I doubt their outlooks on their Great Satan (USA) and Little Satan (Israel) have improved. And they'd be at their peak destructive capabilities, led by hard-line Hamas compared to the Fatah leadership from 2 decades ago.
