I just refinished the target grips on my Pre-34 Kit Gun. I sanded off the old finish with 150 and 220 grit sandpaper then applied 3 coats of Tung Oil finish, buffing with 00000 steel wool between coats. The picture doesn't do them justice, but the grain looks great. Sorry if I've posted too many pics of my gun but I just love it!

I am thinking (just thinking) of sending it off to S&W for a standard re-blue job. I know it will likely decrease the value some but I didn't buy it for an investment, just for a nice shooting gun. However I do like perfect bluing!

What do you guys think? Reblue or not. I know others have asked this question many times before but I do value various opinions.

Thanks
Rick

It's your money; but honestly, it looks like a pretty nice shootin' gun right now. Were it mine, I think I'd spend the money on powder and bullets.

The finish on the gun looks pretty good and you bought it as a shooter. You say you like perfect bluing but if you use it as a shooter it won't be perfect long. I would save the money for other things.

You could reblue it, and then:

a) you won't shoot it because you want to keep it pretty,

or

b) you will shoot it and it will look just like that again in no time.

Looks pretty nice to me. Nice grips too!

You're kidding, right? That gun looks almost new and you want to spend $250 to have it refinished?????

Want to see some guns I am NOT going to refinish?

Thanks for all the replies! Being an old perfectionist doesn't really fit well in the gun hobby, especially if you are also a shooter. I will heed the advice and keep the gun as is. I am going to follow a lead this weekend that may turn up the original numbered grips. It's a long shot but worth checking on!
