These two loading devices perform two different functions . . . there is no intent or desire for one to replace either. Can you top off your revolver with a couple of rounds from a speed loader? Sure. Does a strip lay flat in your pocket as opposed to a speed loader? Sure. I use both, and carry both, the speed loader comes into play when I want to change out ammo or reload a completely empty cylinder. The strip is used to top off the cylinder.
