Speed, surprise and violence of action.

One of my very favorite stories from my career covering crime as a young newspaper reporter was from a motorcycle police officer who stopped a guy one day and had the guy take off on foot. The chase went through several yards with the officer shouting "stop" and "get on the ground" which attracted the attention of a woman who was in her kitchen doing dishes. She sized this up in a hurry and stepped out onto her back porch and whacked the fugitive right in the face with an iron skillet. The cop could hardly stop laughing when he told me about it, said the guy's feet went straight out and he landed on his back like a character in a cartoon.

I applaud your wife for her quick thinking and not putting up with the assault. I couldn't really blame her if she finished up with a good swift kick, or stomp to the pork and beans.

Bill

A round house kick across the jaw as he was on the floor would have been the icing.

Kodiako—I am not familiar with "Aldi" but I assume it is a retail store of some sort? I bet they have security cameras!?

Aldi is a low cost supermarket. They don't have cameras. They hire off-duty LEO as security in the afternoon.

Sometimes it starts when these jerks are young! Yrs.ago my sister was a cheerleader in high school(I'm a little biased she was very attactive..still is)! Walking in the HS hali, big guy got in her way & said something to her,she stopped & said,"What did you say to me"? He leaned & repeated his remark...she hit him in the mouth & he hit the wall..People stopped & looked ,he got up started for her & she said...go ahead & hit me,I have 2 big brothers that will love to talk it over with you!He changed his mind! She never had any more tbl. When she told us I couldn't stop grinning....END of story, Love my little sis!

We raised two girls who are now responsible adults. I have a fair idea what women have to put up today with and hope more react in defense of themselves like those who posted here. Any man who would victimize a woman is a coward in my book.

OLD COP,
I agree with you! At times Big brothers help!!HUGE GRIN! Won't say anymore!

Great post. I think it serves as an excellent example that relying on situational awareness alone will not always keep the bad guy from making physical contact with you as well as of the importance of unarmed skills. True whether carrying a weapon or not.
