Split Forcing Cone

You could always have the barrel replaced, but yes all the parts are now worth something since the gun is no longer made. Before I would sell it off piece by piece why not look into finding a new barrel for it. Not an easy task, but gettable if you set your mind to it.

It could be 'sleeved' back into shootable condition also.
Not the same as re-lining.

I think most any K frame 357 bbl would work OK for a donor to make the new bbl tube (M13?),,check the specs though first.
A K frame 38 special would probably work fine also if Rhino loads weren't used.

The old bbl has the threaded portion cut off, the remainder bored out to slide onto that tube.
Usually epoxied or even LocTite in place.

Saves the original markings and ser#. Usefull especially when a full replacement bbl is hard to find as M19's can be.
You'd be making up a new/sleeved 2 1/2" bbl again so the center pin & ejector rod need no changes.
It's very simple to adjust the cylinder gap when assembling the sleeved bbl.
Just another way to do it if you want to put some work into it.

Hi:
Does a Model 19 2.5" barrel with a split forcing cone have any value or anything that can be salvaged ? Barrel also has the 2.5" ejector rod and center pin with it.

The best Model 19s ever were the ONI group made for the Navy and later transferred over to the FBI. The were 4 inch round butt, and they were light, powerful, easily concealable, and accurate. You now have the perfect basis for building one.

Get a four inch barrel, the ejector rod and related parts and it will require a different height sight slide. Your frame will then live a new and useful life and it will be a more functional revolver than before as you will be able to carry it concealed and with the 4 inch barrel you will be able to make better hits at both short and long distance.

Great opportunity for a rebuild. Get the parts and send it so S&W for a going-over and they will install the parts correctly and make sure everything is in spec.

It will take a little time, but savor the long, drawn out enjoyment of putting together one of the finest revolvers that the factory never offered in the catalog at the time, but should have! :)

There are many used 4" barrels that come up from time to time. 2 1/2"s are harder to come by.

If it were my revolver I would use the model 19 frame and a Python barrel to build me a SMOLT.

These days Pythons are more rare than M19's/ Why would someone sell a good barrel from a good Python

No one in their right mind would take a barrel off of a Python to make a SMOLT

You buy an NOS Python barrel off of the secondary market to make the conversion

Jimmy,

So you have a pinto, sort of.

For a very rare M19, get a M19 4" barrel shortened 1" and make a 3" rd butt M19. You'd still have a full throw extractor mechanism, and a more hideable gun while easier to shoot accurately than a 2".
