The OR was available when you bought your rifle
I guess I just didn't know about them. I saw lots of info on the Sport model that I bought. I never heard of the OR until this thread. I thought I did my homework but I guess not.

I went with the Sport, due to the barrel and because it had sights out of the box... the OR would have cost me more to set up to shoot.
That's ironic. Everything you stated was almost the same with me when I bought my Sport I (5) years ago. But, the OR price was like $1029, or somewhere in that area. And, they had the Sport with the carry handle as well. I too chose the Sport I because of the barrel, sights, and price.I had my choice between the OR and the Sport 1 with 1:8 twist and 5R rifling for the same price. The OR had the chrome lined barrel, 1:9 twist, ejection port cover and forward assist. I went with the Sport, due to the barrel and because it had sights out of the box... the OR would have cost me more to set up to shoot.

..............Typically, the OR was more expensive than the Sport.
....so that was why he could offer them at the price point of the Sport.
No plastic case, no magazine... just the rifle in the cardboard box. But he was willing to throw in a tactical bag with it. Looking back, I should have jumped on it!
I just bought same rifle plan to use Iron Sights maybe optics later with more experience.I realized that this model
M&P 15 Sport II | Smith & Wesson
Comes with:
Front Sight Adj. A2 Post
Rear Sight Folding Magpul (MBUS)
Since I only plan to use my weapon for home defense and don’t plan to install optics, what would you recommend?
Wow, old thread. For home defense, most are going to recommend a red dot. Just quicker that standard iron sites. But a red dot will work fine with the A2 front post.I realized that this model

Thank you. I have 2 questions:
1) I have a Mossberg Persuader 12 gauge for home protection. I got the AR on the advice of a friend to defend if confronted by a mob threatening my home like the couple in St. Louis last year. Given that, do I need any sights or is my S&W be sufficient as is?
2) If not, what would you advise between:
Amazon.com : Bushnell Trophy TRS-25 Red Dot Sight Riflescope, 1x20mm, Black : Rifle Scopes : Sports & Outdoors
and
NcSTAR Red Four Reticle Reflex Optic Dot/Bullseye/Cross/Starburst Illuminated 3 MOA Dot Aluminum Anodized Black | Cheaper Than Dirt
Thanks again!
