Hello all,
I’m new to this site, new to my sport 3, and new to AR15 in general.

My wife bought me an armorer’s tool set (actually two of them, I’ll be returning at least one) for Christmas. I don’t really plan to do a ton of customizing, just basics like the stock, sights, etc.

My question is what tools do I need to have, to do simpler stuff, cleaning, etc? Wondering if I need to keep either of these kits…

Thanks,
Jim

Welcome to the site Congrats on the new Sport 3 I picked one up recently my self.

Others here can advise better on the tools needed but he good thing about AR's and most military designs is the "simple stuff " can be done with out tools.

Field stripping for cleaning is simple and just need a quality rod, jag, bore brush etc.

Stocks are an easy change. Since sights ( not included )are on a Pic rail whatever you add will need no special tools. Possibly a torque wrench for fasteners .

The armorers tools would be needed more for builds, barrel swaps etc. Not something I do myself. Not a bad idea to have a set . Never know what you will want to do down the road.

It will come in very handy to have a basic AR tool set, and a "good" roll pin punch set.

They will be invaluable to do the simplest things like swapping out a stock, and buffer tube, or changing out your trigger guard if you want to update it.

CAT M4 tool to clean bolt tail, bolt recess in carrier. There are other gadgets, none as good.

See if you can find a relatively new version of the military manual to get a detailed look at proper cleaning & lube. There's at least one thread on this somewhere where they included how to properly lube the bolt & carrier.
