Sir,
That is a round butt grip frame, and the screw in the front, called the strain screw, places the tension on the hammer spring(the leaf inside the grip frame).

...and it should be snugged down all the way (yours looks like it might be backed out a little).

Yes it does. It can make the hammer strike too light, or inconsistent. Keep it snugged down.
It is backed out a lot!
Trying to lighten the trigger pull by messing with the strain screw is best left to shooting competitors who know what they're doing. It's NOT a "quick fix" that should be attempted by those of us that have to ask what the strain screw is for.
(OK, too harsh for Christmas, maybe, but accurate!

I didn't know what it's called but I know it's part of the firing mechanism,tighten it and maybe invest in some blue loctite (NOT red just blue you don't want to weld it on)
