Standard Velocity 22lr ammo

I am getting a new S&W 41 would high velocity ammo hurt it ? I am told to just use standard velocity ammo. I would appreciate any input on this.

This topic has been discussed many times. Try the search function. Most Model 41 owners will recommend standard velocity (CCI standard velocity is my favorite) but others will insist high velocity is okay to shoot.

I STRONGLY DOUBT, any .22LR ammo will hurt your Model 41. UNLESS it prohibits in writing in your owners manual, I'd say that's a myth. However, if your lookin' for great standard velocity ammo, try CCI.........

If you actually clock hi-velocity and standard out of a 5.5" barrel you won't see that much differance. I've had several 41s' that no matter what recoil spring used they were not reliable with standard velocity ammo. Never fails that it will happen during a rapid fire string. I usually didn't see difference in group size in those guns between standard and hi-velocity ammo.

A fellow shooter routinely uses the Federal Copper plated bulk pack HV HP ammo. Personally I only use the HV ammom in my plinkers and SV ammo in the Model 41.

I took my new 41 performance center to the range and shot 200 rounds of CCI standard velocity and it was perfect in every way. I shot ten rounds of
high velocity federal bulk and you could tell the difference in recoil and
accuracy,so I will stay with the cci standard velocity.

Too me this is the best round for the 22LR. Its accurate and will feed better in semi-autos.

After thousands and thousands of CCI copper-plated hi-vo, and several hundred CCI standard velocity (in both the 41 and the 46's), the only failures I've had were with the standard stuff.

My wife got me a Model 41 for Christmas. Can't shoot it until after I unwrap it However your discussion on ammo is of great interest to me. The proof brass that came with the gun is CCI, but I can't tell if was standard or high velocity. I have some CCI Mini-Mags (HV) and SV Federal Match coming in the mail next week. Will purchase some SV CCI and try all three. I have a Bob Shea Custom High Standard it feeds the plated bullets much better than the unplated rounds. I was told to use standard velocity in that gun, but you don't do very well in plate shooting if you have to keep slapping the slide forward. Will report back next month on my experience with the three different rounds. Any additional comments would be helpful. It appears there are folks in both the SV and HV camps.

The gun was designed for CCI Standard Velocity ammo, don't waste time or money trying anything else. It is a precision target gun and should be treated as such.

Mine is about 30 years old and still shoots great and it is not a queen, it gets shot a lot. It can easily hold a 1.5" group at 25 yards - probably better but I don't have a machine rest to test it.

Winchester T22 and Remington Target SVs

Took 100 rounds of each out to the range last weekend. After lots of FTFs and FTEs, I'm back to running CCI SV in my 1981 Mod. 41. Just thought I'd try them -- bad idea.

I have used Remington T22's which is standard velocity with mixed results. Some batches are ok, but very dirty, and some I have several fail to fires. If you can find the CCI SV it's the best I've used so far. I've never tried the bulk pack .22's but have heard mixed results with it. Some Model 41's are picky with ammo. I wouldn't buy any in bulk until I tried some first.

Where are you finding ANY 22 LR ammo? Why are you being picky? 22 rimfire ammo is only available in bricks of Unobtainium that functions in only your next rimfire firearm purchase.

My 1958 M41 works just great with the standard CCI SV ammo in it. Same for my M46. The HV ammo is not recommended or required in these models. 2 different Smith@Wesson Gunsmiths have personally told me so. Some of the older ones could crack the frame with the HV ammo as well.
