State-of-the-art Varmint Rifle

There's nothing like the aesthetics of one of those vintage rifle scopes- those are nice pieces. I'm fortunate enough to own a 220 Swift pre-64 Super Grade that belonged to my great-grandfather. No holes.

Barrels for the .220 especially older ones would be suspect. The cartridge was a barrel-burner before better steel and powder calmed things down a bit.

That's one reason I won't touch a used varmint rifle. I've owned several that still looked mint, but had several thousand rounds through them. Top level accuracy can start dropping off in 1,000 to 1,500 rounds with some cartridges.
