I'm looking to stock up on 9mm for my 3906 (My first semi-auto handgun), and I'm tempted by the price of steel cased & "Bi-metal" cased ammo.

I've used Wolf & Brown Bear in a Mak-91 AK variant I used to own with no issues (except for it being pretty dirty), but that rifle was built to handle cheap ammo.

I'm sure the 3rd gens were built to handle American brass & lead, and I'm worried about excessive wear. Am I being too cautious or is that a reason to avoid the Russian stuff?

The only guns I use steel cased ammo in are Russian MilSurps because they were designed for it. Any quality guns get quality ammunition.

I don't use the steel cased ammo in my 3rd gens. With parts getting harder to come by the risk of some type of failure is just not worth the small reduction in ammo cost.

I've experienced feed issues with several mags using steel cased ammo in my 3rd gens... functions flawlessly with brass. I'm done with the cheap stuff.

I agree with all who discourage steel case in Smith Autos. Tryed 1 mag in my 559 and stopped after 3 rounds. FTE`s,messy jams and not worth the risk of extractor damage.

I've run a few hundred through my 5906, mostly just to burn them up, and had no issues. Then again, I don't treat that pistol as well as most of my other ones. It's almost like an experiment. It's my red-headed stepchild for some reason. Almost like it dares me to mistreat it!

It will take more than steel cased ammo to break a 5906. They wear like they're made of stainless steel! :D

I think that is the only one of my 3rd generation guns that I'd put steel cased ammo through. Still, I'd only do it if I had no choice.

Never any steel in mine, but I do run the Federal aluminum stuff I get at Wally World.

I've run 500 rounds of Tula ammo on my 6904 during the ammo scarce. The pistol just spit every round like it was just an over chewed snuff.

All the time. Through just about any firearm they make ammo for. Used for decades only had 2 or 3 problems.

The only consistent problem I have is the Sig P220 mags don't like to load to capacity with steel case ammo.

I see them as tools. If my firearms have to be gently handled with cotton gloves and pampered all around then what's the point

Except being a bit dirty, the Tul ammo has been chewed and spit up by all my weapons - no problems. That said, I will consider not using in my 6906.
