First, please be patient. I'm new to the world of guns, but I know enough when something isn't quite right. Thank you.

I've seen many posts about M&P EZ 9s sticking open when firing and the back needing to be "smacked" to fix. My situation seems to be slightly different. My slide will stick open, even though there's still ammo left in the magazine. I'm able to rack the slide, a round ejects and the next loads, then I'm able to fire. I don't have to smack the slide like others. I seem to be able to rack the slide fine. It's like the gun thinks it's empty but it's not. Any ideas why that may be?
The gun is new. I've shot 150 rounds. And I'd say it happens
3-4 times per 50 rounds. And this is all ammo bought at the range, so assume it's decent. I also have a new Sig p365 and it's never happened.

Thanks for your help.

Have you inspected it when it sticks open to see if its hanging up on the slide lock or anything? Instead of racking it can you just push it forward and close it or hit the slide lock? I cant think of many things that will hold it open beside the slide lock or a jammed round.

I have not tried that. But I feel it's more about the bullets sticking in the magazine / not feeding correctly making the gun think I'm out of bullets. Could the magazine be the issue?

I'm not clear on the sequence here.

Is your gun sticking open before the spent round is ejected, so that when you rack the slide the spent round is now ejected?

Or, is the spent round ejected and when you rack the slide an unfired round ejected?

If it is the latter, then yours would seem to be hanging up like mine does with a failure to feed.

Have you tried smacking the bottom of the magazine rather than the back of the slide?

I did a range test of the ammo I have on hand and found that my EZ 9 has issues with some ammo.

Thanks southchatham. I thought of that too. Going to give it a try. Will S&W replace the magazine? I just got the gun in Jan.

Is it possible that your grip while shooting could be the problem? What is known as "limp wristing" could be a possibility.

The one I purchased for my wife would fail to feed and nothing I tried made it reliable enough for her to carry. I finally contacted S&W and sent it back to them. Since it's been back, there hasn't been any problems.
