Sorry if this is in the wrong place. None of the other topics seemed appropriate. I was in town today so I stopped to ask how long the line is for the "instant" background check. It's still over 24,000 with an estimated wait time of around two months. When Oregon attempted to pass a couple of new gun control laws at the end of last year sales went through the roof. Since the law is kind of back shelfed right now I was hoping the line would be shorter. I guess it is shorter than it was but still...

When I got some guns back from consignment in Dec. I was 34,208 in line. So, it has gone down some. Interesting thing: When I checked in Jan. to see where I was in line, my LGS found that my BGC was gone. Poof. Nowhere to be found. Like it never existed. While trying to find out what had happened, he got angry and resent the BGC. It came back instantly approved. He said the same thing had happened to a couple other customers when I talked to him a week or so later.
Another problem that the law is causing is that since it will limit mags to 10 rds. people are all buying high cap bottom feeders to beat the deadline, whenever that turns out to be. I was selling a couple of 6" 28-2s. No interest except lowballers. I took them back when I realized that if the law went through, I would need to buy one of those stinking permits to get my own guns back. Depending on how the law shakes out, I'll try to sell them here on the forum.

I believe OR is a POC state. That means that the BG check is run by the state, not NICS. The state can take as long as they want to run a BG check. There's nothing you can do about it.

WA is the same way because everyone has to get a BGC from the state to transfer. My last one went 3 weeks. No such thing as instant background check in this state.

Not buying or selling anymore firearms. It just isn't worth the effort, time and money. People aren't buying what I want to sell anyway.

I just read today that in Oregon, if the background check does not go through in thirty days, it has to be resubmitted to the state police. The fed background check, after three days, goes to the buyer. Two purchases I have made in the last month in Oregon went thru the background less than five minutes. I believe it is because of the concealed carry permit.

Since our law went into effect, I have never waited more than 7 working days to hear back from the Seattle PD on my local checks. 4 or 5 times now. Quickest was 5 working days.

The Washington check is your local law enforcement, town/city pd or county sherrifs's dept. The state law enforcement has nothing to do with it.

My Washington CWP that I have had since 1995? may be why SPD is so quick about it. They issued it, and verify it every renewal. Washington's local check requires 10 days or less, or an automatic "proceed" is issued. Oregon must not have that clause.
