Still on the fence regarding the NRA

I don't always agree with the NRA, but it is our "best game in town." Not belonging to the NRA is just not an option to a shooter, sportsman, gun owner, etc.

To eat an elephant you take one bite at a time, and this is what the anti-gun crowd is trying to do, one bullet, one gun, one step at a time. To get rid of guns you might get rid of the ammunition that is required to make the gun work. Even one law against a gun or caliber or type of bullet is a win for the ones that would take ALL of your freedoms and all of your guns....

They just played a big part in getting a backdoor ammo ban law overturned in California. Take a look at Sips post about it.

Not to mention the Heller decision and the Chicago decision saying Heller applies to the States. These court cases are huge, and paramount to our preserving the 2nd A.

We need the other 75,000,000 gun owners to join up. After you, we will only need 74,999,999. :)

Frankly, as one of the gun owners helping pull the wagon, I'm sick of the whining of those who ride the wagon for free and complain about the bumpy ride.

Most, like the OP on this thread, have their nose out of joint on a subject they didn't really understand (ANY rifle bullet would have met the criteria under the proposed law) or they compain bitterly about trivia like "too many mail solicitations." (which can be stopped with a phone call), or that the NRA isn't "perfect."

Well, Boo Hoo. If you want to argue NRA policy, pony up the cost of admission, vote for the board, and join the fray. You might be surprised to find the "imperfect NRA" is just your neighbors and fellow shooters struggling to protect YOUR gun rights, and the track record over the last 100 years with protecting those rights is nothing short of stunning, given the concerted efforts to eliminate them. Look at the UK, Canada, and Australia.

The NRA has been rated the most effective lobby with the US Congress on any subject.

A word of advice from an old NRA member; It's the only game in town. Endowment Life Member [And glad of it]

It is the only game in town.

Not only am I glad, but I am proud as well. We encourage all members of the NRA to enable the NRA emblem next to your name (as you can see in this post). If you hover over the emblem it will identify the level of your membership. They are correctly color coded, but since they are rather small it can be hard to tell.

If you go into the User Control Panel (User CP at the top left of the screen, then click "Edit your details") you can enable the NRA logo to appear next to your name. Pick your membership level and it will be the correct color.

I thought the Second Amendment was to insure that the people could as a last resort overthrow a tyrannical government. It was written by a bunch of people that just fought a revolution against a lawful existing government. I believe any law that gives the government an advantage over the people is a bad idea. I am a long time NRA member. If you are interested in keeping your guns, an NRA membership should be the beginning of your political activity.

Welcome to the forum, Steve.

What is being overlooked is that you have effectively demonstrated the amount of control the Antis have had in the information outlets for the last half century.

From what I can determine, you are a 66 year old gentleman whose opinion of the NRA was so tainted by misinformation you received while being an impressionable young LEO in your 20's that you either resigned or did not renew your membership in an organization you once deemed worthy enough to join and over the course of the next 50 years the truth about the issue was not covered by any of the news outlets you subscribed to, so you did not adequately investigate the cause of your dismay, or this thread wouldn't exist.

Hopefully, you will become an NRA member once again, vote for the NRA leadership and keep them informed about what you believe are the issues they should become involved with and which side of said issues they should be on.

Same logic applies to the Local, State and Federal Public Servants that are supposed to represent us.

John
