still pinching myself...... yep awake.. and happy

Wonder what mom and pop paid for it? Is it hot, or did they simply think it was junk? Even if it didn't work, it's worth at least twice that much.

I know a business deal is a business deal, however, because they aren't gun people and may have unwittingly sold me something worth much more, from an ethical standpoint, I would have went back to them and let them know of their mistake and simple repair and would have offered more. If they declined, then I would sleep better. I know I'll probably get flamed, but that's the way I was raised. :-)

Well yea, your gonna get "flamed".

Since your making a comment about my ethics.. I have to ask, did you read any of the post's I had made?

The "mom & pop" gunstore , which I never said was a gunstore. but a RESALE SHOP, who buys out whole households, garage sales, contents of storage lockers, exc. and resells them in their shop.

they have a FFL for selling firearms that are found in these purchases, everything goes through a 4473 so no chance if it being "HOT"

As for the sale/sold price, they set it, quick turnover on their investment, trying to get their money back.

and yes they aren't gun people . reason being, the woman co-owner of the RESALE SHOP. Who, I've known personally. Is a friend since high school had a family member commit suicide with a firearm.

And yes, a business deal is a business deal.. However, are you really going to sit there behind your keyboard and tell everyone that if you think the price is too low on something. You with your "ethical standpoint" are going to offer twice as much money?

Really?

Never had luck like that.

Paid a little less for my 686-4 Plus than most but never got a $1000+ gun for less than $200!

All the shops around here do the opposite, they troll for suckers. $700 beat up Model 10s marked as "rare" and what not. Then say they are on consignment and they aren't authorized to take them down further (sure).

Kritter, I pretty much hate you right now. I too live in the Cleveland area and have been known to check into local Mom and Pop thrift shops. I am haunted by the notion that I drove past this beauty and was too busy or distracted to stop. Seriously though, what a score! Bill S

Where was it? I'd fly over & bring it back to London for that, IF I could get it through customs! ;-)

I never find anything that cool at those places. All I ever come back with is a stuffy nose from the second hand stuff.

I'll give you $170 for it and pay any shipping and transfer fees. Least I can do to help you get your money back out of it.

nice score, misidentified guns are actually quite common. Especially on older non model marked pieces.

At local shops and shows I have seen a 3.5" pre 27 with real stags listed as a model 28 for $450
a pre-war outdoorsman listed as an M&P target for $650
and many pre-war M&P's listed as model 10's

If I know the guy or shop I'll let them know but some people don't deserve that courtesy.

What gets me is I saw a model 27 at the gun show this weekend that was 50% and the price on it was $1000. Some nice 28s where $7-800.

Nice score and I would let it bother me about a deal like that. If they had asked what it was worth I would have had to be honest. But, when somebody tells you what they want for something that is their decision.

well....

I guess its true...even a blind hog finds an acorn now and then. You can forget about lotto tickets.. you just won. Don't you feel bad about that poor ole mom and pop shop?....... I didn't think so. Congrats on a great find.

well played, kritter. that's one heck of a find. :-)

That is an interesting view point and one I previously subscribed to. My thinking now is, I pay the price as advertised. Recently I looked at some Swiss Army Knives in a store selling a wide variety of knives. I saw what I thought was a miss marked Handyman.

I checked with the salesman at least three times whether the price was correct and when he struggled to fit it in its box. There were other sales people and he confirmed with another that the price was right. I bought it and saved myself some money. Initially it bothered me but surely sales staff need to know their products. It's the nature of business. When I sell anything my objective is to make a profit.

And yes, I think Kritter stole it!!! :D Great find even if it was a steal. ;)

Monday on my way to work I stopped at a little Mom and Pop resale shop here in town, they do mostly estate sales, cleanout's, exc..

Sometimes they have gun's that they pick up for sale.. but they are not "gun people".. Mostly junk stuff, single shot shotguns, BB gun's and sometimes something good...

This was a something good... went in spotted a S&W in the case marked as a model 19... Stuck cylinder, for parts only..

BUT......

IT ain't no 19....

A 27-2 with a 3-1/2 barrel and check out the price.. Ended up being $165.00 out the door..
the "stuck cylinder" was fixed as soon as I got home by tighten the ejector rod..
and yes I also bought a lottery ticket too.....

OMG! How are you going to sleep at night, now? You stole that. I'm calling the police.

Lucky ***! :)

Actually I don't sleep at night.. I work nights.. :-)
but yes, lucky as all get out.. but this shop has proven to find a few goodies that they let go rather cheap..
here's another one I got from the same shop a few years ago..
Winchester 1890 in .22 long rifle...

Sweet! I have the same one in .22 Short, minus the tang mounted aperture sight, which is a nice touch.
