A pair of stocks made of birds eye maple and shipped in 1972 and one of the neatest pair of smooth walnut stocks I have seen (mid-70s). A pair of checked rosewood target stocks (K-frame) from the late 1960s and a pair of smooth stocks made of Goncalo alves and dating to the late 50s. Last is the neatest pair of stocks I own, a pair of carved and ivory inlaids stocks by Alvin White made of birds eye maple and dating to the mid-50s.

Nice thread! I'll post some of mine when I get the ambition. :D

The above picture is excellent for a question I have long wanted to ask. Note the size of the "football" in the second set of stocks versus the sizes in the fourth and fifth sets. Furthermore, the second set of stocks in Doc44's post look like they have a truly mamoth football cutout.

When / why did S&W go from "small footballs" to "big footballs"? I just notice this because I am partial to the smaller football.

More carved stocks by Alvin White. First pair is made of figured walnut and dates to 1955 while the second pair dates to May 1958. The second photo shows a pair of stocks by Alvin White that dates to December 1958 and a pair of carved stocks by Bob Burt (S&W Master Engraver) that dates to August 1965. The last three pairs were shipped with 44 Magnums that are engraved and inlaid gold and silver.

I absolutely love those Alvin White grips, just incredible. Stock collecting... hmmm... I consider it to be akin to a junkie looking for his next fix. Yeah, I'm addicted. Below are the highlights of my collection.

Someone let me know when Ahrends become collector's items... That's about all I could add to this.
