What is the difference between a single and a 2 stage trigger. pros/cons?

Its totally preference.. I like a single stage no movement before it goes pop if its a good single stage that is.... the guy I work with building guns has shot comp for years (1000 meter) he likes a two stage... the trigger will pull back so far before it even engages the sear then you will feel the weight of the sear then a clean break... if its a good two stage that is...

Google ar-15 trigger job.. there should be a link to junk yard genius I followed his process basicly.. it changes alittle with the 15-22.. along with vitamines trigger work he has posted u can fine tune the trigger

There's no pretravel or take up on the M16 or AR15 trigger. It's a single stage trigger. The sear is moving as soon as you apply pressure to the trigger. Actually the sear is the front edge of the trigger interacting with the hammer notch.

I'm pretty sure the M16 was the first (if not only) US military rifle to have a single stage trigger. Even my muskets have take-up before the trigger starts to move the separate sear.

A two stage trigger had movement before the sear starts to move.

Anyway, the trigger in the M&P15-22 is stock AR15 and single stage.
