Strain screws, A question.

I picked up a 2.5" M66 today and while cleaning and inspecting everything I noticed that the strain screw is a LOT shorter than the one in my M19. Did the use different ones for round and square butt pistols or did they change over the years. I only find one parts listing for "strain screws".

Round butts do have shorter screws. (Why does that sound strange?)

Yes, they use different length screws. The round butt are considerably shorter than the square butt.
