After performing a detail strip on an early 5906 slide, I discovered the ejector depressor plunger (mag safety plunger) was white plastic, possibly nylon...I have never seen this before on any second or third gen Smith. Has anyone ever seen this before?

Yes, I have seen this commonly in my standard production 3rd Gen. guns. Just looked at one of my 3rd. Gen. PC guns. The one in that one is a different color and I can't tell if it's the same material or not...

never see one that wasn't plastic - I think it's to protect the already fragile ejector from excessive wear

I have a bunch of second gens, they all have a steel or stainless plunger, took a look at all my third gens, all have plastic except two, must be part of the AIP I guess.....never noticed it before.....

Looks just like the one in my 5906. I have 9 pistols and the 5906 is probably one of the best I have. It is my favorite.

The plastic ejector depressor plungers used in the slides can be either black or white. Same part, different color. I have both.

The firing pin safety plunger is steel.

The plastic plunger costs more than the steel one. ;)

The only couple (or so) times I've seen a plastic plunger damaged has been from when an ejector tip had broken off and the owner/user had kept using the gun without knowing the ejector tip was gone. The broken ejector gouged the plunger.
