My wife wanted to stop at a CVS for some items June 26. She placed her items at checkout and when all were scanned I tapped my card and it was immediately denied. I knew the card was good
so as I got another card out of my wallet the machine that prints out the sales slip kicked out the following ticket. The 800# is not associated with my bank. I paid and left.
I called my bank this morning and was advised no request on card since June 23.
I went back to CVS and spoke to manager who said she had never seen this type of message. She was going to contact CVS "IT" department.
Could CVS have a virus in their point of sale program?

I have never seen anything like that at any merchant...it looks suspicious as all get-out to me.

This reminds me of an incident involving a co-worker about 15 years ago. She made a purchase at a major retailer, and the cashier told her that her card didn't swipe correctly, and needed to be swiped again. The cashier then swiped the card again, but on something underneath the register. My co-worker immediately demanded to know what was going on, and asked for a supervisor. Bottom line: The cashier had a card reading machine under the register.

I would definitely get in touch with CVS's corporate security department and ask them to look into this. Good luck...

I process a lot of credit/debit cards remotely with my job. Some with pretty big amounts. It can get screwy at times. Processed one this morning for close to $4k. Came back declined.(I get no reason with our system, just approved or declined). Vast majority of declines are for a large amount that sends up a red flag. Today I waited 5 minutes and hit process again and was approved. Didn't change any info. I think sometimes the info just transfers wrong to the bank?

Peru, IN?
My old Hoosier stomping ground!
That's where I met my Bride.
She was teaching school there at the Base.

So, what is the rest of the story about the cashier with the card reader under the counter?

A month or so ago I tried using My Big Box store CC at the store that I frequently use. The card was declined and gave a strange message that even the cashier had no idea what it was about. I called the CC number on the rear of the card and the VERY NASTY lady at customer service told me my card is suspended for non payment.. I got on the computer and checked my Bank and that i send payments through and it showed a payment made well before the due date.. However that payment was returned to the Bank for incorrect information a few days later.
Seems that the CC company changed the billing address and since i had direct payments the address was not changed.. When Mz. Nasty said there would be a 30$ late fee I asked to go back to paper billing. The next month I received my statement by mail I sent a check for the exact amount without the late fee along with my Shredded Credit Card.

I had a credit card refused several times by the Great State of Texas yesterday when I tried to renew my car license and registration over the internet. And I had used that card at the supermarket without a problem no more than a half-hour earlier. My wife's card worked OK. I need to check on that.

I pay by cash or check as much as possible, and I don't have any of those problems.
I don't do internet banking, or have a debit card either. I will use a credit card for gas or calling in an order to Brownells occasionally.
I am convinced that paying by check, and doing bank transactions on paper are now more secure than the electronic options.

I ordered my favorite coffee beans online about 3 week ago. After 1 week I get an email form the seller stating the order can not be shipped because the merchandise was damage. (all five 40 ounce bags??). I then get an email that states he can not refund my money through ebay because there is a glitch with his account and requests that I send him my Paypal account or give him my Bank Acct. number so he can refund me electronically. Smells like SCAM all over!!

I requested that he immediately refund my money through ebay and if he didn't I would immediately report him and dispute the Visa charge which is exactly what I did. Two hours later that afternoon my friend down the block said he ordered the same brand coffee from this vendor and got the same email. Glad I know how common scamming is today!
