I do sometimes, like now. :D

I try and save bandwidth by not copying all of the pictures or what I want to highlight is in a long quote.

I just think others might miss the quotation marks and get confused. Observation proves lots of stuff gets missed. ;)
 
The resolution of the photo does not allow for any degree of certainty of what I am seeing. I do see something in the center, but cannot make it out as a pin. Is this a standard front sight? It just catches my eye as the wrong size for the gun??? I am not familiar with N frame target sights.

I agree, the front sight is just wrong for a 2nd Model Target, first thing I noticed; looks like a Colt single action front sight. Albeit could have been changed and hence the incorrect pin location.

Yes , good eye on the coil mainspring. Also short hammer fall,gold bead sight,SW Seal on right side oversized. My Grand Dad snagged test models, short or rare production models a lot before they ever left factory. The piece was factory mint unfired, makes me cry. S/N 0409

I suspect center pin is stuck or the lug under the barrel is stuck. Has it had a long bath in thinned out auto tyranny fluid?

It gave....finally, just had to get a little less timid with the center pin !!!The Collection "Baked" Inside a non FP safe whereas the presentation boxes, wood and gutta percha grips and nylon rugs just carbonized and melted down. Estimate 550 degrees but will I take a chance with these cylinders....uhhhhh, no.

I'll follow it up . SN 0409 (not in production range)Coil Main Spring,1901,06,09 patents on barrel. Another prototype one off ? We have a few.

Without them, the cylinder is locked by the pin that extends from the frame at the rear to the lug at the front. The thumb-latch and internal parts are required to move the pin forward beyond the locked position, allowing the cylinder to open.

If it did not move when all the parts were still installed, you could take a small pin punch and from the rear, tap the center pin forward, allowing the cylinder to swing open. From what I can tell, the front pin in the barrel lug is in the locked position.

Not retroactively as helpful as it could have been in original post. Members spend considerable time here to help you w/o having to waste time due to lack of information. Just FYI.
 
This already rather interesting thread just got a bit more interesting. #0409 is obviously a "Club Gun" number, and here's what comes up: The date shows as 02/00/1944 (as do several other items in the same vicinity----a couple for the U. S. Army). I'll hazard a guess that whoever put it (and the others) on the list didn't know the exact date, didn't care much one way or the other, and put down a "close enough" entry. Next it says .44 H.E. Coil Main Spring. And saving the best for last, it says C. C. Call (and I'm pretty sure that's THE Call) indicating it was he who ordered the gun---or he to whom it was delivered. And finally, where's Mr. Mundell when we need him?
