Just successfully replaced the sight blades on my M60 3" to a red ramp front and white outline rear. Not a gunsmith, but it really wasn't too difficult. Buying the correct cup tip punch, drill bit, spanner tool and staking punch made all the difference. And removing the rear sight adjustment screw inside a gallon zip lock bag to catch the detent and spring saved me because it shot out of there with some force.

Congrats on a successful job. I can do the rear change out, but as for the front red ramp, S&W has the 5th one that I have had them change, and they are so far behind that they have had it for a month and haven't even generated a work order. Not complaining, Vito, one of their gunsmiths does great work and is worth waiting for. You are brave to take a file to your front ramp.

No file was needed, mine has a pinned front blade. Only had to replace the blade. Used a cup tip punch to drive out the pin, pulled the front blade out, decided I wanted the new blade flush to the front of the muzzle, and drilled the new blade and reinstalled the pin. I did mount the #54 drill bit in a variable speed dremmel with extension cable to give me more control than a hand drill. Used the lowest speed and slowly drilled the blade from both sides using the existing holes in the slot as guides. I was a little worried about enlarging the holes but it turned out to be no problem with the control of the dremmel. I used a little blue loctite in the groove to embed the blade. Not sure that was needed but thought it was a good precaution to make sure blade was stable. Drove the pin back in with a brass hammer.
