I just got my old duty back from the S&W Performance Center, the internals were redone and the weapon was refinished. I seek forum members' suggestions for a "drop-in" main spring housing. Thanks in advance for any suggestions/comments.

I don't know of any guaranteed drop in MSH. My preference has always been Smith & Alexander one piece MSH and magwell. And the last one of those I bought for my Kimber Stainless Target II it was a drop in with no extra fitting required, but I was just lucky I think.

I've been buying EGW's "bargain bin" stainless MSHs--very well machined with a few blems on the checkering. The checkering is 25 lpi and very sharp, which I find is a big help with maintaining my grip on my pistols.

They're only $20 each. The only frames they didn't fit were a Safari Arms and an AMT Hardballer, both of which had other "non-spec" issues. On Colts or Springfields I haven't had any problems.

The finish won't match a black/blue gun but for my shooters it doesn't matter to me. EGW does sell blued MSHs but they're at full price (+/-$40).
