I've never really considered buying a tactical knife, but as I am starting to hangout with friends I've met at the range I've noticed that a lot of people have some badass knifes. I don't really need one keep on me on the daily, but I would like to get one to possibly keep in my bugout bag.
Any brand suggestions or specific knife I should look into?

The Benchmade Arvensis is tough to beat.

Here are a few of what I would call my "tactical" knives. Left to Right:
Piranha (extremely sharp automatic)
S&W (automatic)
Boker Kalishnakov (automatic)
CRKT (automatic Columbia River Knife & Tool)
Benchmade (assisted)
Junkyard Dog II (Flipper technology)

I think the Junkyard Dog is my favorite because of being
ambi-dexterous. I usually carry clipped in my left front
pocket. I can pull it and flip the blade open just as fast
as I can with my right hand and one of the automatics,
because my right hand would be using my gun.

.......ya maybe!!!!

:D

To the OP ............Benchmade, Ka-bar, Hogue, Cold Steel all have some good offerings............Ka-Bar is old school , Cold Steel mid range, Hogue and Benchmade +$200 or so....... from there the sky's the limit.

In a fixed blade a 5" blade ...... 5.1"Ka-bar "mini" or MkI "Navy Deck knife" are great general purpose/utility knives that can be tactical if really needed.

Cold steel SRK is a good knife for the purpose you describe.

I prefer the Fallkniven A-1, but it costs more. See both in YouTube.

Frankly, the Buck Model 119 isn't a bad choice, although it isn't a black knife.

Fixed blade or folder? What's your budget?

Tactical knife before it meant black and scary looking.

I carry a Sog Trident Tanto with spring assist for EDC you may like. About $50-60. Has Aus-8 steel which ain't bad. For a fixed blade I like my Gerber Prodigy Tanto Tactical with just under 5 inch blade. Only 420 H.C. but blade is very thick. Great for defense. Am sure there are better choices concerning blade steels but it depends what you want to spend. Benchmade is great but $$$$$$$. Just my two cents.

Lots of good ones to pick from.

I also vote for the Buck 119. Just bought another one last month at Wally $47 + tax. I have given 119s to both of my sons. And still have and use the one my father gave me 40+ years ago. JA

Benchmade mini grip or a spydico Delica. Both as good as it gets and under $100.00

I have an Emerson CQC-11. It was actually recommended to me by a friend in the DEA when I was still living in Midland, TX, I probably bought it around 2005. Here's a photo of it with my Model 60-4.

This knife is incredibly fast to deploy and the blade is as sharp as any I've ever seen on any knife ever.
