Suggestions on bolt action 22lr

Looking for suggestions on "budget" bolt action 22lr I own a Savage 93 22mag with 3x9. I rarely even shoot long guns no plans of putting a scope on it plinking perhaps hunting. Semiautomatic not legal to hunt with in my state and had a bad experience with a early Remington 597 so not my first choice was looking at a Rossi R22 today not a bad looking gun for $130 just not interested in a jam o magic since most of my 22lr is cheap bulk. Thanks!

Why not stay with another Savage? Or a used Marlin?

Here in Montana the Ruger All American is very popular as is the CZ 452-5-7 series of guns, but they are not a real cheap solution.

I tend to buy any Remington 581's I spot.....very accurate!

My only other rifle is a Savage 110 so I was thinking the same stick with brand I've had decent luck with both rifles extremely accurate to my standards.

I would find a older Marlin//Glenfield model 25 single shot bolt action. They are tack drivers and not a lot of money. Not much can go wrong with them that is not a easy fix.

When I was looking for a less expensive bolt action .22 with a threaded muzzle, I considered both the Ruger American rimfire and the Savage. I went with the Ruger because of the magazines. It is very accurate and the trigger is decent.

I don't know what Ruger 77/22s cost these days, but I've had several and still have two that I bought new at least thirty years ago. They're well-made and quite accurate with a variety of ammo. They may cost more than what you're considering, but I doubt they are expensive.

Hardly a long gun expert, and prefer wood instead of plastic, but my LGS gave me a great deal on a Ruger American Rimfire. Hubby put a twenty dollar scope on it and it was so boringly accurate, MOA, that I had him take it off so I could plink with the iron sites.

It used to be that every gun shop would have a dozen old .22 LR bolt action and single shot rifles in the rack. If you prowl a few shops, look for old Marlin, Mossberg and Savage models. They tended to be put together by guys that cared about quality. Like Growr, I like Remington 581 rifles. Those and the tube-fed Model 582 and the fancier 541s are excellent choices and often available at a good price.

Great rifles. Down side is the magazines are pretty precious. Used ones are going for about $50 on fleabay. Don't lose the magazine!

Another vote for the current Savage bolt actions with the AccuTrigger. Bought a Mark II series rifle 2 years ago and am happy with it.

Used, major brand with a tubular magazine and you probably can't go wrong. Savage has made quite a few with this feature but a quick check of their website doesn't show any.

Ruger77/22's are pricey....IF you can even find one. Savage is a good choice for a budget .22 bolt-action. If you hunt around enough you may be able to locate an old Glenfield/Marin. A few months ago I was lucky enough to happen upon this little Model 20 gem at a LGS. Got it for $140.00 otd with no mag. But the rifle was dang near like new with ZERO rust anywhere on it. Mfg in May 1966. I found a company called American Rifle Magazines that produce factory mags for it for $21.99 (used on e-bay are going for $80.00 or more!). The trigger isn't great but the accuracy is outstanding. It will group under an inch at 50 yds and not much worse than that at 100 with CCI Mini-Mags, and clang a cow bell at 140 yds. with ease . I put a Bushnell Prime 3.5-10x36AO on it. If you can find a clean one like this for a decent price buy it!

When I was looking a few months ago, I was looking for a Savage FV-SR, and new ones were nowhere to be found. Used ones were bringing $400+ on GB. I still think it's a great rifle, if you can find one for list price, or what they were sell for pre-Covid.

For a budget gun, I would suggest trolling local gun and pawn shops for older bolt .22s. Stick with major brands for parts availability.

I ended up buying a Tikka T1x from my LGS. It was more expensive than I originally planned, but not a lot more than what the 'budget' guns I was looking at were going for with 'covid inflation'. It turned out to be a great purchase, as the gun is very accurate, and has gotten me interested in our local rimfire benchrest matches.

Savage synthetic stock. Only downside is heavy trigger. Guess mine doesn't have an Accu-trigger. Mine wears a 3 x 9 Leupold. The other day I bought a miniature sponge football from the dollar store and hung it from the 100 yard backstop. Plinked at it from sitting and standing.

My kid calls mine "Dad's little sniper rifle". They are accurate with almost any ammo.

I wonder what used Mossberg bolt actions are going for these days, they used to be very affordable, especially the surplus model 44US that the CMP was selling some years back.
