Suggestions on bolt action 22lr

When I was 12 yrs old my dad bought me a Winchester model 67-A . It's a bolt action , single shot 22 . It has to be the simplest 22 rim fire rifle to disassemble , clean etc . It is very accurate as well . If I was looking for a single shot bolt action 22 rim fire ? It's what I would buy . Regards Paul

Called two shops they both have the iron sighted Mark II synthetic stock one is $240 other is $250 also have wooden stock model for $250. Have Ruger American Classic for $350.

Well quit playing on the computer and go get one! LOL :D

I'll cast a vote for the Ruger American Rimfire. Mine, the polymer stocked model with 22" barrel, shoots everything I feed it from cheap Winchester 333 to CCI Stingers. I haven't tried target ammo yet, but mine really likes CCI Standard Velocity, Blazer and Aguila High Velocity and scoped with a BSA Sweet 22 3-9X has no trouble shooting 3/4" groups at 50 yards (if shoots better than I do). I paid $300 at Academy several months ago with the Veterans discount but IMO Ruger's fit, finish and quality is worth the extra you pay compared to the Savage, Rossi and others priced lower. Another plus, it uses Ruger BX rotary mags.
I agree with the others though, if price isn't an issue the CZ457 is a great choice.

I prefer the CZ rifles over anything in their price range. Below that price level I'd pick whichever Marlin or Savage I found in stock at a price I was comfortable with. I'd probably stick with a wood stock model. A lot of the cheap plastic stocks have far more flex in them than I like.

I received my bolt action.22 in 1966 as my Christmas gift. It is a Remington 582, tube fed, with a cheap K-Mart scope, Iwas over the moon.

I recently purchased a Rossi brand, Rio Bravo, lever action rifle, tube fed, and am very satisfied the gun.

Mossberg 340 series! Regret selling mine!

I have a 540 22 Mag that I love!

I love my Mossberg 341 bolt gun Santa gave me back in the early 70's, and wouldn't give it up for anything.

But about 20 something years ago I bought a cheap Romainian 22 training rifle on a whim. That little sucker is as accurate (or more) as any 22 rifle I've ever fired.

I think it was about $69 bucks when I got it. Ugly wood and coarse finishing, but that barrel will flat shoot.

I've got another one here that doesn't have a bolt or magazine, but I keep hoping to run across the parts to make another tack driver. I want to say it's a M69 or something.

Somebody here will have one. I'm curious how accurate the others are.

A college buddy had a Remington 581; it was an accurate rifle.

My Christmas present in 2019 was a Rock Island Armory Model 14Y .22LR. It is a wooden stocked, youth sized bolt action with a box magazine. Even though I have long arms (37" sleeve), I shoot the little gun just fine.

I found it at Rural King for around $119. The currant price is $139.

MTC has exactly the same Ruger American I have, including the scope. I think this is my first choice, for quality of build, accuracy, and price. I also have a less expensive CZ, I think the model is a 99. Very accurate. I bought it at Cabelas a few years ago for $159.

You can't go wrong with any of the older Savage rifles. Look for something made before 1970* and you will have a straight shooter.

I have a 1922 Savage Sporter that was only made that year and that puppy drills one round on top of another. And does it all day long. It is a magazine fed rifle that only holds 5 rounds and the replacement mags cost big bucks no matter where you get them.

1970 is an arbitrary date simply because I don't own a Savage rifle made after that date

Just as an FYI for any that might not know, That CZ 99 isn’t from the same company as the Czech made CZ’s most of us have mentioned, it’s actually a different company from Serbia with the same initials. Totally different rifles, but neat little guns as well.

Search the local pawn shops and find yourself an older Marlin. They can be had dirt cheap, totally reliable and more accurate than they have a right to be. :D
I prefer tube fed, but nothing wrong with the magazine models. ;)

The company being referred to was Zastava and the model was CZ99, also known as the MP-22, imported by Remington as the Model 5 and Charles Daly imported it as the Superior 2.

Zastava choose to use a mini Mauser action and they are truly top notch in the accuracy dept. I have used mine to win the Big Sky State Games Sporter Silhouette match a number of times.

Great shooting rifles under any importer... magazines are tricky to find however.
