These guys are right on. In fact, much of the history of gun control has centered on limiting blacks' right to own guns. A major task of the KKK was to enforce the black codes in southern states by disarming blacks who had been able to keep their firearms in lieu of some pay after the Civil War. Other blacks had were able to purchase guns cheaply as the market was flooded with guns after the war.

Adam Winkler discusses some of this in his book, Gunfight: The Battle Over the Right to Bear Arms in America. I'm
not sure of the NRA's role in combating the KKK but certainly gun control has a history of racism. The strictest controls
aimed at blacks in southern states after the CW. The 14th Amendment to the Constitution was aimed at extending
Constitutional rights to the States, one of which was the right of individual's to bear arms. While one might argue
the 2nd Amendment did not refer to individuals (I think it does, but it's not clear.), no one can reasonably argue the 14th Amendment
did not extend rights to individuals.
