Surprise Gunbroker Win

I would say it is a bit "finish challenged" but saying the finish is "destroyed" seems like a bit of an overstatement IMO. I've certainly seen a lot worse.
Seems to me that it's a shooter grade example, and is priced about right for its condition.
If I were looking for a shooter, and didn't already have one, I'd be a buyer at that price.
JMO.

Congrats on your new addition to the family.
I have the M-18-2 and a pair of 15-2, one 4" and a 2" with TH and TT. The latter was bought off a retired LE officer estate. Thought it was odd the target t ad h on a 2", it had seen very little use. Loved Thiokol's pics of his pair of 15's

Good honest service wear, and a good deal IMHO

Truck gun for sure. Looks like Grandpa had that in his '72 Chev P/U, since new. Lots of use.
Price climbs to $550 with all taxes and fees.

Not trying to be argumentative, but just curious, how did you come up with $150 in taxes and fees?
My state has one of the highest combined state and local sales tax rates in the country (8.9% - which is on par with CA) and they even charge tax on the shipping. We also have a $18 transfer/FFL fee and most FFLs charge $35 for doing a handgun transfer ($10 more than for a long gun due to the extra state paperwork required for handguns). That brings the cost of a completed transfer to $53.
So $399+$25 shipping = $426 x 1.089 = $463.91 + $53 transfer = $516.91
To hit your $550 number the sales tax rate would have to be 16.7% - either that or you'd have to be paying around $90 for the transfer.
Does anyone have tax rates or transfer fees that high?

Smith391 has a beautiful Combat Masterpiece in .22LR shown above on Post # 14.
I have a J-frame, model 34-1 (1976) Kit gun and K-frame 617, 6", sorry a little dirty girl.
The 22 LR is such fun in double and single action revolvers or semiauto or rifle for that.

Well do you live in the OPs state. In my state tax is 10 2% more than yours

I made a guesstimate, $516.91 or $550 IMO is high. $33 is not the point.

Holy CATS! 10.2% is outrageous!

When I looked for the highest sales tax rate in the US the top 5 were
Louisiana
Tennessee
Arkansas
Washington
Alabama

Louisiana shows a rate of 10.16% - so I'm guessing that's where you live.

FWIW, the price on a gun varies widely - depending on the area where its being bought/sold.
$500 OTD for a solid S&W revolver isn't bad for this area. My state is making it harder and harder to buy guns and that is one thing driving prices up.

I get that. I work at at an LGS, my primary is used guns and the GB account.

I can guess what happened. The right price was what the seller paid.

AHH, I see. You're in the cat-bird's seat.
You probably get first crack at used guns, and probably a discount too!
I'm jealous!

I like the OP's gun, and would have bid on it. Haven't seen a 15 of any dash in an LGS for a very long time. Old Smiths are hard to come by any more. Sadly, Cabelas is about the only source around here, and they would have had 600 plus on that one, finish and all.

BTW, I like bruised ( not abused) guns!

Just something special about M15's - everything you need in a .38, including great sights.
One of my first 'retirement jobs' after my LE career was working p/t in a large, busy LGS.

One day a fella came in and either traded or sold a finish-challenged blued M15 4".
It had all the signs of having been a well-worn LE or perhaps Security revolver.
Before the guy left, I approached him and asked for 'the story' on it - he really had no idea. Stated his brother got it at a garage sale years before. No story.

Anyway, decided since I didn't have a M15 that this might be a good one. Mechanically very sound and tight as could be. Boss/owner made me shell out $150 for it.
S/N puts it at c.1970
It sees a lot of woods carry at the hunting lease, often with a couple of shotshells first up in the Summertime.

Great on the range, very accurate and don't worry about it getting a little rough use.
